Despite the poor play of the Mets the past 7 games, I'm still feeling optimistic and readying for the postseason (especially with the Mets leading the Marlins right now). So I'm reviving Cockeyed Optimist Monitoring Every Situation with a High Outlook Theses to have a thread for positive thoughts about the Mets. Thanks to Edgy for finding the original thread started by Johnny Dickshot.

Here are some starters:

  • They've hit rock bottom and are on the upswing

  • David Wright puts the seal on his MVP candidacy and has a killer final week of the regular season at the plate.

  • The Magic Number is 9. Could be 3 by Monday morning.

  • The Phillies have one fewer game left to play. That's one more chance for the Mets to run down the magic number.

  • They team has not recorded any embarrassing pop, metal, or hip-hop songs all season.

  • Autumn brings out the best in the Mets pitchers.

Delgado starts swinging a hot bat,
El Duque is fit and ready for the playoffs,
Joe Smith regains his early season brilliance.

I vaguely recall writing that post but have no memory of, if you will, coming up with COMESHOT. What a pig.

After being unreliable most of the year, Delgado has found some of that magical pop we fell in love with last season.

Beltran has been playing like a superstar who's team needs him in the lineup, rather than a superstar who doesn't play when he's not 100%.

Mota has had 4 straight appearances without giving up a run and his ERA is now the lowest it's been since August 15th.

If cleon were here, he'd say, "That's his JOB. He's still a clubhouse cancer."

Rickey Henderson had GIN three times during batting practice yesterday.

The Magic Number will be 3 at the end of this night.

Hopefully Alou hasn't spent his COMESHOT load with this hitting streak. He's simply a mean bitch at the plate.

I think that's what I need to get comfortable again after last night's loss.

If today goes wrong, and the Magic Number remains at 5, we have Humber going tomorrow with a 1-game lead.

So let's have everything go right today.
