Seems a bit of a delayed start, it's already quarter after.

TransMonk

We'll be a little late tonight. The grounds are wet.

I was really hoping we'd manage an easy win tonight just to get the ball rolling.

Sigh.

metsguyinmichigan
Sep 28 2007 05:32 PM

The booing is bad. I'm sure they're already gripping as it is.

But, damn. Damn. It's like a kick in the shins right out of the box.

You just don't want them to roll over right away.

metsmarathon
Sep 28 2007 05:32 PM

it can still be easy.

metsguyinmichigan
Sep 28 2007 05:33 PM

OK, Ollie. That was the out of the box yips.

Now let's get the boys up to the plate. If we can't beat Kim, then we don't deserve to go to the playoffs.

Rotblatt
Sep 28 2007 05:37 PM

I have a bad feeling about tonight. Kim's fastball is popping, and Ross nabbing Castillo's fly strikes me as a bad sign. I think the Marlins came to play, and I've yet to see any evidence that we have.

Evidence against: Reyes leaving the fucking bat on his shoulder.

I hat baseball.

metsguyinmichigan
Sep 28 2007 05:42 PM

Ollie seems to have settled down. Now let's get the bats in gear.

Keep the heat on, offense. Score somehow.

Too bad he probably won't make more than 2 pitches in this game.

2 run dinger by Howard. We need this game 'cause the Phillies don't seem to be looking back.

Frayed Knot
Sep 28 2007 07:24 PM

Nice to escape futher damage there but JEEZ can we have a 1-2-3 inning once in a while?
Fish have had something like 14 baserunners thru 6 and have hit maybe 4 balls hard. Walks, HBPs, infield singles and plays not made are killing us here.

Edgy DC
Sep 28 2007 07:32 PM

Let's see maybe some Milledge.

Edgy DC
Sep 28 2007 07:36 PM

Or Niner. Let's go, Mets.

Aaron's being turned into a workhorse, as the most dependable of a suddenly marvelously undependable lot.

Rotblatt
Sep 28 2007 07:45 PM

Why Conine and not Milledge?

Milledge v. lefties: .305 AVG/.379 OBP/.542 SLG/.921 OPS
Conine: .253 AVG/.329 OBP/445 SLG/.775 OPS

Willie has been just god-awful at pulling strings during these stretches.

Kid Carsey
Sep 28 2007 07:49 PM

Heilman gets through the 7th, still 7-4.

If Lo Duca can't throw, he should sit.

Uh, Jose, do that thing you used to do ....

"Why Conine and not Milledge?"

Probably subscribing to the school of thought that vets make for better pinch-hitters.
That may be accurate or maybe just one of those things that most just assume is true.
Either way, Conine is certainly has a lot of experience PHing compared to Lastings who has virtually none.

I'd like to see a couple things he used to do: get on base, steal a base, score . . .

Especially that last one.

Come on, guys, despite my negativity, I haven't given up hope yet. Scratch a run or two across here, and show a little pride.

]Either way, Conine is certainly has a lot of experience PHing compared to Lastings who has virtually none.

Sure, but in his limited sample size, Milledge is a world-class pinch hitter.

I think you're right. Given how little we're using him during this stretch, I'd rather we'd have traded him for one of those bullpen arms.

It would have been a terrible deal, but if we're not using him anyway . . .

ETA: Castillo wants to win tonight. Good. Let's get it going, Mets!

You're prompting all sorts of horrible scenarios in my head, holychicken, including a shallow outfield collision involving Reyes, Wright & Beltran.

In other words, it can always get worse.

But I agree that our prospects are grim and getting grimmer.

No shit. I'm glad that Paulie wants to play, but it's Willie's job to step in and say, "Hey, dude, you can't throw and you can't swing--you're out."

Preferably BEFORE giving up one of our precious outs.

If Paulie wants to throw a temper tantrum, well, Willie should be man enough to handle it.

That was the dumbest at bat I've seen all year.
