TransMonk Sep 29 2007 11:25 AM |
2 out RISP RBI by Alou. God, I've missed that.
TransMonk Sep 29 2007 11:26 AM |
And another by Delgado!
Zvon Sep 29 2007 11:29 AM |
Now this is a decent inning here.
Zvon Sep 29 2007 11:33 AM |
Phils don't start till around 4.
Zvon Sep 29 2007 11:44 AM |
Maybe Reyes really is partaking of the ganja lately.

I think the boys are starting to get it.
Nymr83 Sep 29 2007 12:11 PM |
WHAT THE FUCK IS REYES DOING??? RUN THE FUCKING BALL OUT!!!
Nymr83 Sep 29 2007 12:12 PM |
but castillo still cares, he drives in Maine!
Zvon Sep 29 2007 12:13 PM |
Was that a bunt? I can't see game, I'm reading it. I have 'Reyes grounds out to catcher'.
TransMonk Sep 29 2007 12:14 PM |
Reyes failed to run out an infield single that he thought would go foul...again.
Zvon Sep 29 2007 12:21 PM |
Really.... Damn. We have an 8-0 lead. I'd really like 8 more by the end of the 6th, thank you very much.
Nymr83 Sep 29 2007 12:22 PM |
no lead is safe from the mets bullpen.
Zvon Sep 29 2007 12:23 PM |
You think Reyes really has been sulking since Willie pulled him that time?
Zvon Sep 29 2007 12:25 PM |
I'll project my hopes to the ninth, and this would add up to 18 runs. And maybe Maine can give our pen the much needed rest it needs. Man, would that be something.
Nymr83 Sep 29 2007 12:32 PM |
there are 3 games on FOX at 4:00 today.... CHI/MIL, WAS/PHI, and SD/MIL, they'll give us the philly game in New York right????
Zvon Sep 29 2007 12:35 PM |
No idea.
Zvon Sep 29 2007 12:36 PM |
aww,...1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the 4th.

Catcher Olivo seems to be the object of several Met's ire.
Nymr83 Sep 29 2007 12:57 PM |
Olivo just charged Reyes and Sandy Alomar sr. the benches are clear again!
Zvon Sep 29 2007 01:00 PM |
Frayed Knot Sep 29 2007 01:01 PM |
Reyes, standing on 3rd base during the pitching change, was yapping back & forth with Olivo on the mound when Olivo suddenly charged 3rd base swinging for Reyes but catching Sandy Alomar in the process.
Zvon Sep 29 2007 01:02 PM |

seawolf17 Sep 29 2007 01:21 PM |
You know what, fellas? It's too fucking late for this shit. You're telling me they couldn't do this once, just once, maybe twice over the last two weeks? You can't score a fucking run in a big spot, steal a fucking base, make a smart fucking decision, get a fucking out in a big spot. Then, now, one fucking game from elimination, all of a sudden you score ten runs and give up oogatz? Eff you, Mets. EFF YOU.

No he shouldn't, we should. Announcers are there to announce. To be calling a game when something momentous is happening and NOT say so is irresponsible, not to mention stupid. (the TV booth has acknowledged it several times since my initial post btw). Besides, the whole superstition is that no one is supposed to mention TO THE PITCHER that he's in the midst of a no-no lest you spook him into a case of the heebie-geebies. To transfer that to announcers, fans, and the man on the street is silly ... and to think it actually has some kind of effect is just plain dumb.

Perfectly reasonable move by Willie. Of course, my queasiness factor in going to the bullpen even with four outs to protect a 12-0 lead is stilll 26%.

Oh, I would have. I just mentioned to someone last week or so: Mets never had an MVP or a no hitter, and I really thought that I was gonna finally see an Met MVP. And truth is, I'd prefer to see the no-no go down even more. Baseball is such a funny game. I feel Wright has pretty much fallen out of the MVP race (he could change all that tomorrow, but he'd have to something pretty amazin') and I would have just been on cloud nine for the winter if Maine did that other thing today. If the post season and the MVP got pissed away, and we got that no hitter today, I would have embraced it and it would have sustained me.
Benjamin Grimm Sep 29 2007 05:26 PM |
A no-hitter means nothing to me. It wouldn't have sustained me for even 24 hours.
Zvon Sep 29 2007 05:27 PM |
Zvon Sep 29 2007 05:29 PM |

different strokes I guess. I tend to think more in terms of Met history. I've always considered the post season, when the Mets get there, simply more Met games to watch. Its a plus.
Benjamin Grimm Sep 29 2007 05:31 PM |
A no-hitter is a quirk, an anomaly. It can't compare to a championship.
Zvon Sep 29 2007 05:33 PM |
I love this pic.

martin Sep 29 2007 06:50 PM |
after analysis of the tape, i am awarding team fightin loyalty awards to oliver perez, the first bench guy to the fracas, and anderson hernandez, followed closely by moises alou and marlon anderson. these fellas are quickest to the aid of a teammate.

seawolf17 Sep 29 2007 07:07 PM |
Hey Rott... any chance you got your hands on an extra pack of those baseball cards they were giving away today?
Edgy DC Sep 29 2007 07:12 PM |
Well, it'd've sustained the Mets season, and therefore me, for the 24 hours.
Edgy DC Sep 29 2007 07:58 PM |
Not having seen the lone hit Maine gave up, is there any notion that Wright gets to that ball if he hadn't taken one on the knee earlier?
OlerudOwned Sep 29 2007 08:01 PM |
None. His only option was to hope it would roll foul.
OlerudOwned Sep 29 2007 08:02 PM |
"I don't care if it's broke," said Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez, who left the game after being struck on the left hand by a pitch from Maine (X-rays showed the hand was not broken). "I'm gonna play tomorrow. [Screw] everybody on the Mets. I'm going to kick their [butts]."
Edgy DC Sep 29 2007 08:30 PM |
Amazing how screw is somehow acceptable for print in that context.
Benjamin Grimm Sep 30 2007 04:53 AM |
FUN FACT: The last time a Mets pitcher struck out as many as 14 was August 1, 1999 at Wrigley Field when Al Leiter struck out 15 Cubs.
Rotblatt Sep 30 2007 08:00 AM |
Hey, I said "almost"! My thought process going into the game was, even winning two might not be enough, so I just want to see them take it to the Marlins and do whatever it takes. I couldn't have asked for a better example of that--unless, of course Maine had thrown a no-hitter.
SteveJRogers Sep 30 2007 08:28 AM |
Very true, like Alou's 30 game hit streak, the second half of Wright's 26 game streak and Glavine's 300th win, they are nice things that should be looked at outside of the season they are done in, rather than defining the season that a championship would. If by coincidence a special moment did happen during a championship season, then yes it does add to the specialness of the season, but it doesn't make a season special on it's own.
Elster88 Sep 30 2007 09:25 PM |
Did you paint that Zvon? It's fucking incredible!
Zvon Sep 30 2007 10:08 PM |
lol, no Elster. Thats a mixture of effects from Paint Shop pro to a photo. One's call 'brush' and it tries to change pixels to something similar to brush strokes. Its pretty kool if you dick with it enough to get the desired effect. Edge,.... Not only was there no chance, but I really think Wright showed an amazin' maturity and poise to stick that ball in his back pocket and not throw it. He had absolutely no chance to get him. It was a dieing nubber and he really reached it as fast as he could, and he played it cleanly. I'd say most third baseman would have tried winging it for the sake of it, with a no hitter on the line. And I'd also say a percentage of them throw it away and possibly open up a big inning for their opponents. That was really a fine and smart play by Wright. I was impressed he knew to let it go.
