Who's that fellow in right field? Name seems familiar...

It's time for John Maine to step up. I don't think he will. I'd like him to prove me wrong.

Now this is a decent inning here.
This is the way to start a ballgame.

I'm like so geared up for bad stuff to happen that I feel numb.
But I do believe we are winning, 2-0.

Zvon
Sep 29 2007 11:33 AM

Phils don't start till around 4.
Hopefully this will have our guys keepin their eyes on the field and on what they have to do.

Maine - be strong!
Be the warrior that we know you are!
My sports world rests on your shoulders.

Zvon
Sep 29 2007 11:44 AM

Maybe Reyes really is partaking of the ganja lately.
From last night.

Well, looks like Milledge, Maine, and Castillo arent playing in a cloud.
They unite and assemble for another run.

Beltran with a big RBI single

And we chase starting pitcher Seddon already!

I mean,....whats his freakin problem?
He's got the best legs in the majors and in a do or die game, he chooses not to use em?

I'll project my hopes to the ninth, and this would add up to 18 runs.
And maybe Maine can give our pen the much needed rest it needs.

No he shouldn't, we should.

Announcers are there to announce. To be calling a game when something momentous is happening and NOT say so is irresponsible, not to mention stupid. (the TV booth has acknowledged it several times since my initial post btw).

Besides, the whole superstition is that no one is supposed to mention TO THE PITCHER that he's in the midst of a no-no lest you spook him into a case of the heebie-geebies. To transfer that to announcers, fans, and the man on the street is silly ... and to think it actually has some kind of effect is just plain dumb.

The best-played game by the Mets that I've ever been too, even taking into account Reyes failing to run out his squibber (which, by the way, Willie absolutely should have benched his ass for).

Maine had me believing, even though I knew his pitch count was high. By the fifth, I was thinking, "Well, if we miss out on the playoffs, but get a no-hitter here, I'd almost call it a wash."

Amazing. I've never seen a better pitching performance in person.

Crowd was in good form--lots of early support early.

Great game, great win, and hope is alive!

No freaking way.

Oh, I would have. I just mentioned to someone last week or so:
Mets never had an MVP or a no hitter, and I really thought that I was gonna finally see an Met MVP.
And truth is, I'd prefer to see the no-no go down even more.
Baseball is such a funny game.
I feel Wright has pretty much fallen out of the MVP race
(he could change all that tomorrow, but he'd have to something pretty amazin')
and I would have just been on cloud nine for the winter if Maine did that other thing today.

If the post season and the MVP got pissed away, and we got that no hitter today, I would have embraced it and it would have sustained me.

A no-hitter means nothing to me. It wouldn't have sustained me for even 24 hours.

different strokes I guess.
I tend to think more in terms of Met history.
I've always considered the post season, when the Mets get there, simply more Met games to watch. Its a plus.

A no-hitter is a quirk, an anomaly. It can't compare to a championship.

I love this pic.

Sandy looks like he's Bruce Lee in his prime fighting thugs :)

after analysis of the tape, i am awarding team fightin loyalty awards to oliver perez, the first bench guy to the fracas, and anderson hernandez, followed closely by moises alou and marlon anderson. these fellas are quickest to the aid of a teammate.

honorable mention to mike difelice for getting most involved with wrestling and grabbing.

Amazing. I've never seen a better pitching performance in person.

Crowd was in good form--lots of early support early.

Great game, great win, and hope is alive!

Hey Rott... any chance you got your hands on an extra pack of those baseball cards they were giving away today?

Well, it'd've sustained the Mets season, and therefore me, for the 24 hours.

Not having seen the lone hit Maine gave up, is there any notion that Wright gets to that ball if he hadn't taken one on the knee earlier?

None. His only option was to hope it would roll foul.

"I don't care if it's broke," said Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez, who left the game after being struck on the left hand by a pitch from Maine (X-rays showed the hand was not broken). "I'm gonna play tomorrow. [Screw] everybody on the Mets. I'm going to kick their [butts]."

On a last place team going into the last game of the season. Can't question the guy's heart, huh?

Bring it on.

FUN FACT: The last time a Mets pitcher struck out as many as 14 was August 1, 1999 at Wrigley Field when Al Leiter struck out 15 Cubs.

Hey, I said "almost"! My thought process going into the game was, even winning two might not be enough, so I just want to see them take it to the Marlins and do whatever it takes.

I couldn't have asked for a better example of that--unless, of course Maine had thrown a no-hitter.

Very true, like Alou's 30 game hit streak, the second half of Wright's 26 game streak and Glavine's 300th win, they are nice things that should be looked at outside of the season they are done in, rather than defining the season that a championship would.

If by coincidence a special moment did happen during a championship season, then yes it does add to the specialness of the season, but it doesn't make a season special on it's own.

lol, no Elster.
Thats a mixture of effects from Paint Shop pro to a photo.
One's call 'brush' and it tries to change pixels to something similar to brush strokes.
Its pretty kool if you dick with it enough to get the desired effect.

Edge,....
Not only was there no chance, but I really think Wright showed an amazin' maturity and poise to stick that ball in his back pocket and not throw it.
He had absolutely no chance to get him.
It was a dieing nubber and he really reached it as fast as he could, and he played it cleanly.
I'd say most third baseman would have tried winging it for the sake of it, with a no hitter on the line.
And I'd also say a percentage of them throw it away and possibly open up a big inning for their opponents.
That was really a fine and smart play by Wright.
I was impressed he knew to let it go.
