Sixteen registered members online right now. I can't remember that many here at once in quite some time.

*muffled laugh.

I put beer in the fridge but I have a rule that I won't have a beer till the sun goes down.
Keeps me quite sober during the summer, very drunk over the winter.

Here's something - I have two beautiful daughters - one who is following her dream of becoming an artist, and the other who is just the cutest 9-year old cheer leader anyone has seen...

And my nineteen-month-old son spent the ninth inning laughing at the dog while mom and dad moped on the couch, and when he went to bed, we asked him what book he wanted to read... and he walked over and picked up "Hello, Mr. Met." Because in his world, every game ends with a game-winning home run and Mr. Met climbing into his Mets pajamas and going off to dreamland. And that's a wonderful thing.

Yeah, we all get to get on with our lives.

Frankly, as disappointed as I am that the Mets are done, I'm glad I won't feel compelled to watch any more baseball until April. These last two weeks were no fun, and I'll be glad to have my evenings back.

To be honest, the end of last season hurt a hell of a lot more than this season did.

On edit: Insult to injury - I'm freaking Looper.

Yeah, last year was definitely worse. In spades. We knew coming into this season that the Mets just weren't as good as last year.

I hate baseball.

I'll watch, and there's a mini-playoff game tomorrow! Winter's too long
to go without the game, I ain't shutting it off on 10/1 just because my
team tanked.

I agree, a sniff of world series vs. what we've been through the last
week and I'm almost over it. Of course there will be some Yankee fan
crap to put up with tomorrow morning (caller id has prevented some of
that today) but we'll see what they can do. I wouldn't be too confident
if I were a Yankee fan post season wise.

I've always condoned metsbrainwashing, in moderation of course.

Nah they'll win the World Series, just to make Met Nation feel worse, and ARod will have a HISTORIC postseason to match his regular season.

The only way that ending could actually be a good one though, is if ARod says F U to the Yankees and Yankee fans and opts out this winter.

I disagree.

Last year was a hell of a lot more fun from start to finish. The end came suddenly and was over quickly. This year, we weren't as good, and we imploded down the stretch. There was a feeling of helplessness, as hope and optimism were slowly drained away. No, this season hurts a LOT more, IMO.

Agreed. Any season where you make the postseason feels better than one where you go 1-6 against the some of the crappiest teams in the majors to complete a historic pennant race collapse.

This year was worse.

Last year was good. This year was bad.

Maybe I was just more emotionally invested last year. I believed. I really believed (especially after Endy's catch) that last year was THE YEAR. To have it ripped away the way it was, I'm not sure if I'm over it yet.

This year, I have been going through a lot of personal stuff, plus it seemed like there were too many games this season where I felt like I cared more about the outcome of the game than some of the players did. So this is more of a numb feeling, almost as if I've been put out of my misery.

Well, if you're taking the season as a whole, I definitely agree - last year from start to finish was a lot of fun. I was just saying that the way it ended hurt a lot more last year.

You could see the season slipping away this year. By the time the inevitable collapse was complete, I had already resigned myself to the teams fate. I cold see this hit coming and I had time to brace myself for it.

Last year, the end came so suddenly and surprisingly that I was prepared for it. I got blindsided and never saw the hit coming until it was too late.

Last season, was a far better year, but the final loss of the 2006 hurt far more than the loss today.

This year was just a continuation of last year. It's been a slow downhill since Duaner Sanchez wrecked.

I was staying at the Westin
I was playing to a draw
When in walked Charlton Heston
With the Tablets of the Law
He said, 'It's still the Greatest Story'
I said, 'Man, I'd like to stay
But I'm bound for glory
I'm on my way
My ride's here
