So we're not in it. Do you care any more?

Why not, its still baseball.

Its your duty, Judy!

I'll probably root for whoever gets the NL crown, even if its the Phillies or Cubs. Though I do want to see that Golden Jubliee celebration at Wrigley next year.

Course I do.
It's baseball.

A

Baseball

Fan!!!

I'm also a secondary Red Sox fan (I lived in Nashua for a spell when I was young).

That said, I will also be paying attention to the Rangers and Islanders a month earlier than I expected to.

Fuck it.

Only way I'll give a crap is if the Cubs break the Curse of the Billy Goat, so we won't have to feel sorry for them anymore.

Mex, I'll give you that you lived in NE, but this kind of always bothered me about Met Nation since the start of the recent era of the Yankee-Red Sox War.

The belief that because of a common enemy Red Sox and Met Nation share a bond that would have one root for the other when their favorite team's season ended.

This could be FARTHER from the truth when it comes to Red Sox fans. Please, they hate the Mets JUST as much as they hate the Yankees, maybe even more than we hate the Yankees. Red Sox fans simply did not root in 2000 the way Met fans just blindly rooted for the Red Sox in 2004 like a bunch of Yankee hating sheep.

Thats part of the reason why I'm firmly an NL guy, even if that means rooting for the Phillies, Cardinals, Braves, Dodgers or anyonelse that I consider a hated rival. We don't pick up any fans from anywherelse that hates the Yankees (mostly AL cities) so why should we do the same just because they are a Yankee rival? I know thats a bit contradictory, but it makes sense in that most of the NL (save for New York, LA and SF) is probably indifferent about the Yankees or hates the Yankees because its the "thing to do" without real reasons to back it up.

Hello, who did the Mets beat in 1986?

There was JUST a movie last year called Game Six about the Red Sox experience of that game.

Buckner was villivied after that point, you can't tell me that Red Sox Nation is just apatheic when it comes to the Mets. Like I said, they did NOT root for ANYONE during the 2000 World Series. That says something about how much animosity towards the Mets they still harbor.

I'll watch the Sox and Cubs and root for both, probably watch the Padres and Rockies tomorrow night.

No doubt I will tune in and root for the Yankees to lose.

Benjamin Grimm
Sep 30 2007 05:15 PM

Rooting for the Yankees and Cubs to lose. And the Phillies too.

So I care, but not enough to watch.

I've only watched two or three non-Mets postseason games since 1994. I may (or may not) peek at an inning here or there, but no more sitting down to watch a baseball game.

I used to be a baseball fan. Now I'm simply a Mets fan. It's the legacy of 1994.

Do I care? No, not really.

Will I watch? Sure.

Over dinner tonight my family all picked teams we would root for since Tom Glavine laid down and rolled over like the choking dog that he is.

I'm going Padres, my sons picked the Phillies & Cubs, daughter's got the Injuns and the wife is for the Angels.

We're going for the team that is playing the MFYs.

I have a feeling 2007 may cause many Met fans to feel the same way. Then again that may just be a knee jerk same day reaction, but that ending really is something that could drive many to either elsewhere or a gradual reduction of how much they invest in the team.

You read all that?

I'll keep watching as long as the Phillies are playing, only because I have friends I can talk about it with. But geez, it won't be much fun.

I really, really want that Golden Jubliee next year at Wrigley.

I mean it wouldn't bother me if they won after 99 years (99 years without a Championship on the wall, 99 long years...) but I'd love to see a professional team with a 100 year streak.

I don't even want to root against the Yankees. I'm honestly tired of rooting against the Yankees. I want to root for the Rockies or for the Indians or for whoever, but emotionally, I'm spent. These guys have sucked every baseball joy out of me the last few weeks. I'll follow, I'll post, and I'll probably watch, but I don't care who wins.

Frayed Knot
Sep 30 2007 07:26 PM

I always follow post-season baseball even if I don't have any particular rooting interest (except anti-NYY). The absence of the blue and orange means it's no longer a 'must watch every pitch' deal, but I'll check in as often as practical.

Mostly I just hope for good, exciting games and maybe develop a rooting interest in one team or another along the way. None spring to mind immediately aside from Cleveland - and as often as not I'll root for whoever is losing the series just so it'll get extended.

Sep 30 2007 07:43 PM

Not exactly rooting for them but I think the Angels will win the whole shebang.

Then my time here today was well spent.

Some may feel they suffered a serious loss today, or during the last month for that matter.
As far as I know Coob, you are the only one who has really suffered such a loss.
To get a laugh out of you after that season ending baseball game we had to experience today,.....this makes everything okay.

I like the Rockies, like the Mets last year: Good offense, good defense, a few surprises in the pitching dept.
