Heroes - Season 2

Centerfield
Oct 03 2007 08:50 AM

I loved season 1. I thought at first it would be just a crappy knock-off of X-Men but the story was compelling, the characters likeable, and lines were blurred between good and bad which made it all very interesting. The finale was a bit disappointing for me, but I was really looking forward to season 2.

Which so far, has kind of sucked. The first thing I noticed, from the "upcoming scenes", was that no one in the last scene of the finale that might have died actually did. And that in itself is fine because I didn't think the story lines for any of the characters had been fully developed, but the first two episodes have done almost nothing to move the story along. Whereas in season 1 I couldn't wait for the next episode to see what happened next, this week I find myself annoyed and anxious to see the next episode because almost nothing has happened yet.

I'm confused why Peter has to help out the irish thugs in order to get the box of his belongings back. I don't see why he doesn't just fuck them up with his spark things (when did he get the spark things anyway?), take the box, then fly home.

I'm confused how Nathan can spend all his time drinking. Wasn't he elected to Congress? Don't congressmen have responsibilities and stuff? And why the beard? Is that a pre-requisite for being a drunk?

I like the storyline with the symbol guy coming back to take revenge on the older heroes. I think that story has potential. I was sad to see Sulu die though.

I hate Hiro's storyline in ancient Japan. It's retarded. It's almost like they let George Lucas take over some of the writing. And we've seen this plot so many times...Voyagers, Quantum Leap,...we know that all Kensei has to do is take the swordsmith's daughter to the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance and everything will be ok. Hiro needs to get back to hanging out with Ando. Those guys are great together and kind of uninteresting on their own.

We haven't seen Nikki/Micah/DL yet and we have yet to hear from Sylar. I hope they clear up Sulu's history too because it's confusing as hell. My wife is dying to find out what Peter's mom's ability is. I also hope in this season it's revealed why everyone in India speaks English.

Uhura brought the Universal Translator over with her.

I don't think they are going the way of Lost - I do believe that they are busy setting things up, and I'm sure that the payoff will come soon.

I too want to figure out what the hell happened with Nathan. Dude should be in Congress now.

Peter obviously had a run-in with the Haitian at some point, since he's wearing the Haitian's necklace. Also kind of explains the memory loss.

I believe D.L. is dead. Niki is going to send Micah off to live with his grandmother in New Orleans, who is played by (get this) Nichelle Nichols, Uhura herself.

I'd love to know more about Hiro's mother. And yeah, Angela Petrelli's power is bugging me, though I'm wondering if it's detection of other people's powers.

I'd like to know what Nathan saw in the mirror - is he really that disfigured?

Valadius

He saw an image of a disfigured Peter. But yeah, I wanna know what that's all about.

Re: Heroes - Season 2

I gave up on season 1 to watch 24. It was too late to figure out what the hell was going on in Heroes by the time I realized that 24 was completely ludicrous.

So I was looking forward to Heroes this season and sort of glad when I realized that it was basically a brand new storyline. What I find not too thrilling though is that it seems like every other person that walks in the door has a power. High school boys check out chicks alone in their rooms by hovering outside their windows and flying away (I'm expecting my residual check any day now since they blatantly stole my adolescent fantasy), fugitive Guatamalans kill people by having chocolate sauce ooze from their eyes (not sure why that's a good thing), ancient Japanese/British warriors healing themselves, etc., etc.

I like it so far but I'm hoping they tighten it upo a bit soon.

="Centerfield"]we know that all Kensei has to do is take the swordsmith's daughter to the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance and everything will be ok.

Funniest thing I've heard in a long time. Thank you sir.

It's not a good thing. She has a kinda horrifying power that she hates.

Right now the characters and story lines are too all over the place for me. Maybe they'll tighten up. I guess Nathan has given up his Congressional seat.

I think they're planning an episode called "Four Months Back" or something that details what happened in the aftermath of the Season 1 finale.

In other words, we're SUPPOSED to be confused right now. Personally, I'm really enjoying this season so far. I agree that Hiro's storyline is cliched, but I'm still just delighted by his character, even sans Ando, and I thought Kensai having Claire's power was a nifty little twist.

I also think that the threads will tighten up--we've already got Mohinder, Claire, Claire's dad, the Haitian, the cop & Girl Child Actor all playing for the same team. I'm guessing within three or four episodes, the disparate threads will intersect.

Prediction: the Mexican brother has the ability to absorb more than just his sister's plague--he can absorb the effects of others' powers as well.

me too.

i'm also hoping, if that doesn't happen, that she at least has the good sense to properly dispose of the old toe.

and really... she should bleed more there, no?

Yes she should. And if you're peeping in a window and see someone cutting their toe off would you just stand there with an 'Oh Gosh' look on your face? I think I'd be more inclined to...oh I don't know...freak the fuck out maybe?

Claire's flying boyfriend must go.

i don't think that super-intelligence is on alejandro & maya's list of abilities.

"since we're wanted for murder, lets steal a car. oh, and lets not look around to see if there might be a policeman some ten feet away - that would be a waste of time!"

The idea of an evil Peter is kind of intriguing, actually. And I love how Sylar is powerless now.

Let us also not search for a deserted alley in which to make such attempt, but rather do so in broad daylight on a main street.

Other than a few lines from Claire's boyfriend that made me gag, last night's episode was pretty cool. I like how they're going to go flesh out some of the story regarding Angela Petrelli and the others. Sylar was great in last night's story too. He is just so evil.

I thought Parkman was a bit dumb pushing Molly the way he did. Once you have the address and floor, do you really need the apartment number? Come on Matt. You're a fucking cop.

Where is Niki anyway?

i like that ando intuitively knows to read the scrolls, that nobody else in history had the fortune of discovering, in their correct as-written order.

also, double dutch...? really? the shot with micah cooing over whatsername's jumping of rope was just plain awful. i wonder, too, does muscle mimicry also imbue one with sufficient strength to successfully repeat those performances which are viewed? i mean, if she tried to dunk, would she be able to, or would she struggle to scrape the net with top of the ball? i mean, i could buy her ballin' out of her head, with all kinds of streetball fancy moves and shit, and shooting lights out and what not, as that needn't require a sudden upsurge in strength that she does not currently have, nor could likely ever have on her frame. but dunking should be impossible for her.

and if not, then she's really gotta start watching reruns of the worlds strongest man competitions and start going all magnus ver magnussen, tossing telephone poles like they were toothpicks and pulling semi-trailers with her teeth.

is sparkle-girl's father bob-with-no-last-name? does uhura have any powers? she should have powers. she's not in the photo is she - i don't recall...

I think Monica does get strength or else she couldn't do that wrestling move.

I really liked last week's episode. It seems like they finally have things moving now. I can't wait for them to explain how Kensei is still kicking around in the present day.

As an aside, my Time Warner junked out so I wasn't able to DVR it. I had to watch it online. Has anyone ever had the unfortunate experience of doing this? Froze on me a thousand times...I thought I was going to put my fist through my monitor.

i like that i'm back to being skeeved out by mr. horned rim glasses.

it totally sucks for the irish girl.. first they fry up her big brother extra crispy, now she's stuck in a future that may not come to be with a virus running around rampant wiping out 93% of humanity. talk about a bad week!

why couldn't hiro just grab kinsei when he stopped time and drag him out of the exploding building, possibly repairing some of their damaged friendship?

having met sulu already, and surely knowing him to be hiro's father, why wait until exactly now to make hiro's life miserable, or did he want to wait until after hiro blinked back to japan? and with hiro being the legendary takezo kinsei, doesn't that set up something of a terminator-style paradox, where without hiro going back in time to play the hero, he never grows up hearing the legendary tasks which he will one day perform in the past. the other kinsei sure wasn't going to do any of it, was he?

i hope west flies off and gets a little too close to the airspace over lax and finds himself sucked into a jet engine. i'm sorry. maybe that's not harsh enough...

Nov 08 2007 12:48 PM

Time travel stories inevitably end up with gaping plot holes. Why blink to four months after the Sylar duel anyway? Why not the next day? If Sulu was killed, why not go back to the day he dies and warn him?

I try not to think too hard about them or else I drive myself crazy.

I'm torn on the Irish girl. At first, I said unattractive, but the accent gives her a little something. But the more I saw her, she swung back to unattractive again, but then seeing her get scrubbed down made me think she might be attractive again. They really should show breasts on network TV. It would take the kids off the streets and make this country a better place to live.

Agreed that last night raised the bar significantly.

very nice trick with the blood there at the end. i was kinda saying to myself, 'hey claire, why not go get your father and try to heal him with your blood, instead of getting carried away and all' but no. happily bob's the cooler head.

and i gotta say... i don't think that bennet thought through his prisoner exchange well enough. that fell all to pieces in predictable, rapid fashion. i expect better of him, really. planning, planning, planning!

parkman's playing god and hiro's learning not to. it must be difficult to not abuse a superpower...

i think we're looking at a pretty good confrontation next week with hiro and peter. can't wait.

we still don't know what hiro's father's power was, do we? and we only kindof have a glimpse into mama petrelli's. she can seemingly restore memories, but is that all? that seems like a rather limited scope.

i wonder if claire's blood will eradicate the shanti virus, or enable it to leap to humans? hmm... i wonder, if bennet were exposed to the shanti virus while he still had claire's blood in him, would he then become the conduit for the virus to enter into the human populace, or is that leaping too far?

so, um, niki, nathan, dead? not who i expected at all. i was expecting a much more boring maya/elle killoff.

and if you can heal yourself / regenerate, can you still suffocate / dehydrate / starve to death? i would think so, just from a thermodynamics standpoint and the whole conservation of energy/matter blah blah blah, but who knows, right?

also, were i peter, i'd've at least tried out an infusion of my blood which is capable of healing me. i mean, worth a try, no?

and finally, i'm hoping that sylar has not suddenly now gained the ability to self-heal, as that does not seem to be the case with others who've been infused with claire/adam's blood. i don't think that he can 'learn' to do it by getting a transfusion, but by doing his brains thing.

or at least that's what would make sense to me.

how do thse people not notice all the damned blinking red lights behind vents and grates? i mean, really?!

and finally, how the fuck long does it really take for something dropped from hand height to hit the floor? half a second or so? the vial was surely falling for a much longer time than that!

Centerfield
Dec 05 2007 10:31 AM

I doubt either of those characters will remain dead unless the actors demand too much money. Overall it was a dud of a season...I'm hoping most of that was a result of the writer's strike.

Wipe the slate clean, start over again, and hope they can recapture some of that initial magic.

We didn't actually see either one of them die; so the window's always there. Both would be pretty unbelievable, though, with one blowing up and the other being shot in the chest on national television.
