Now that the Yankees have lost...

I can return my Yankee-fan brother's phone call from last week. the fact that the MFYs played only 4 more games than the Mets did this year helps to aleviate the pain somewhat. I hope they ride Torre out of town on a rail, then don't re-sign A-Rod, and spend the next decade finishing out of the playoffs, changing managers every year or 2.

It feels great that they are out and the annoying MFY fans are quite today, I can enjoy the rest of the baseball and really cheer whoever wins.Still when I watch the NLCS I'll be thinking of missed opportunities

I took the Mets collapse better than most it seems but the one loss that will really stay with me was failing to beat Tyler F. Clippard back in May. It may have been that that loss -- coming as it did after nearly blowing a huge lead the day before -- convinced me that this Met team "didn't have it" and is as good an argument as any for the MFYs playing 4 more games than us this year. So good riddance to the 2007 Mets and Yankees. Go Injuns. Go Red Sox. Go Rockies. Go Dbags.

Sadly I doubt that is ever going to happen again. While my knee jerk reaction to the collapse of the Mets was that it would be a long while before the Mets return to contention, I seriously doubt the Met franchise will ever have another 74-85 or even 89-98 ever again as well. Economics of baseball has shifted too far one way for the Mets and Yankees to ever be horrendous for a long period of time ever again. Of course save for a drastic change in the economic system and/or ownership of either team decides to do a scorched earth decimation of the franchise to the point where the team becomes the Pittsburgh Pirates or Tampa Bay Rays.

I think it would be pretty cool if the Red Sox and Yankees changed places in terms of dominance and failures. Maybe the Red Sox coming back from 0-3 to the Yanks in '04 really was a reverse of the curse. It would be 2 championships in the last 4 years for them as opposed to the biggest post-season choke in history and three first round knockouts for the Yanks. If the Sox win it this year again Yankee fans would have to start wondering about the mojo. Go Sox.

Neither of those periods was monolithic, certailny not monolithically horrendous.

And to be real fair neither were the "Horace Clarke Years" of 65-75 or the period of 82-94 without any Yankee postseasons despite the MFYs having "the most wins in the decade of the 80s" but we are talking about the "dark" times of both franchise's history and Vic wishes a return of such a time for the MFY, but the way the game is structured the "dark years" will be akin to the Mets 01-05 or something where the valley will only be about a year or so.

I'd prefer to go without the insinuation that I'm being unfair as you deflect attention. Nothing in your post referenced those Yankee seasons.

I'm augmenting and agreeing with the point that both teams in question have had lean periods that in the grand scheme of their franchise's history are not as bad as the fans who say "Hey I lived through (Horace Clarke, Willie Montanez, Kevin Mass, Bobby Bonilla, ect)" try to make it sound. There is no attention deflection.
