i think its about time to get this thing started. it seems curt schilling has already taken himself out of the competition, while andy pettitte has insterted himself in.

Okay, here goes. Forgive me if some of my guesses seem completely wild. I don't pay much attention to what other teams need, so a lot of these selections were pulled directly from my nose.

I like that last one on Dickshot's list. Todd Van Poppel went from off-injured talented young starter to effective middle-aged reliever for the Cubs, to failed free-agent for the Rangers. Why shouldn't Kerry Wood follow the same career track?

I also want to point out the prediction by Johnny --- ever a sucker for a magic quote --- of Omar's rampaging spending spree. 6. Luis Castillo (NYM) 2B -- Mets Mets to go nuts. You read it here first.

I should have added a disclaimer: I'm so smart I have no idea what will happen. I'm no Magic Quote sucker.

Nats are interesting. Bowden has made it clear that he thinks big-name free agents should be the last piece of the puzzle, but he's already met with reps for three big-ticket centerfielders --- Hunter, Rowand, and Jones. They don't need a big stud to have a good attendance year, as they have a new park, but they may need a centerpiece for their maketing going beyond this year.

i'm covered though as nobody gets any points for this one. i figured if the yankees let him get past today he was a good shot to go elsewhere and if they didnt it wouldnt cost me anything

Noobody got Torii Hunter. (DocTee apparently just freaked out skipped him.)

DocTee Nov 26 2007 08:12 PM |

I had him going to TEX...you'll see I have two spots for his list predecessor, Livan Hernandez. Him, I got heading to Seattle. Why? i dunno

edgy has his own little bit of confusion in his guesses:
|
iramets Dec 02 2007 07:42 AM |
|
For "confusion," should I read "ambiguity," in that LA might mean Dodgers or Angels? I'm sure he wasn't confused over his own meaning, or intending to confuse us, but simply careless.

well, i'm easily confused.
|
sharpie Dec 03 2007 07:05 AM |
You have me down for 3 correct when I have 4 (Castillo, Glavine, Rivera, Wood).
|
metsmarathon Dec 03 2007 08:42 AM |
you're right. i did that across the board for anyone who got kerry wood right, it seems.

Also, Matsui has signed with the Stros giving MetsGuyinMichigan a point.

Andy Pettitte returns to the Yanks on a one-year deal.
|
sharpie Dec 14 2007 07:02 AM |
This needs updating. Edgy picking both Andruw Jones to the Dodgers and Lo Duca to the Nats is gonna make him tough to beat. No one got Eckstein to the Jays or A-Rod to the Yankees or Rowand to the Giants. Several got Pettitte staying with the Yanks.
|
Edgy MD Dec 14 2007 07:19 AM |
Nobody got Rowand to the Giants. Michigan J. Frog was the sole Matsui oracle.

That might be my lone quality pick! Do we get points for counting Clemens and Bonds as retired, or do we wait until they make a formal announcement?
|
metsmarathon Dec 14 2007 07:55 AM |
i'd wait for a formal announcement, or the start of spring training, or the point where the contest becomes decided anyways and therefore the last few points don't matter in determining the winner.

edgy, please be honest. did you mean andruw jones to the la dodgers, or la angels? or did i just misread your prediction? 16 players remain unsigned, so i think we're all still alive here...
|
AG/DC Jan 22 2008 09:44 AM |
Sorry. Totally the Dodgers. I'm not-no-never getting around referring to the Angels as the LAAoA.
|
smg58 Jan 22 2008 11:39 AM |
A remarkable number are still unsigned a month before spring training.
|
metsmarathon Jan 22 2008 02:05 PM |
mostly because i asked for a bunch of craptacular free agents...
|
Nymr83 Jan 22 2008 03:18 PM |
|
this offseason's free agent poll was "craptacular" that wasn't your fault.
|
AG/DC Jan 22 2008 05:11 PM |
The Dodgers sure paid dearly for their crap. So did the Angels.

i'm not sure if the "minor league contracts" should count the same as actually predicting a team. i'll let the group decide. i'd at least give half credit, but for today's tallying, will give full. lunchbucket is the big beneficiary of the minor league contracts, as they give him the lead!
8 players remain, and we all (basically) agree on one of them - clemens. that means that we have the first dropout - doctee. and it appears that i will be the next. i'm eliminated from outright victory, and can at best tie. everyone else still has a chance, i think.
|
Mets Guy in Michigan Feb 25 2008 02:25 PM |
I'm counting on Bonds retiring so I can tie Lunchbucket!
