Atlanta has wasted no time, kicking off the winter's action by dealing shortstop Edgar Renteria to Detroit for a pair of outstanding names: Jair Jurrjens and Gorkys Hernandez.

That could make for some head-spinning, Esa Tikkanesque trash talk.

Quick! Name five Mets players who were able to speak Papiamentu!

Wow. So Jose's back to being the third best shortstop in the division. Progress!

Wow! Can't say that Schurholz (or now successor) have ever been afraid to make the big trade.

I'd assume you mean Yunel Escobar, who was certainly impressive this year for the Braves while Renteria was hurt.

Actually I was thinking about Elvis Andrus (they're cornering the market on best first names) but he's probably not ready yet and Escobar was impressive last season while Renteria was shelved.

Nobody? Oh, come on, this was easy! The answer is, of course, Danny Heep, Lute Barnes, Mike Glavine, Roy Staiger, and, this last one was the tricky one, Mark Clark. Thanks for playing, everybody!

For a good player Renteria has been on a lot of teams: Marlins - Cards - Red Sox - Braves - Tigers.

Hernandez just spent the summer here in Grand Rapids playing for the West Michigan Whitecaps -- in the low-A Midwest League. He could hit a little.

Has there ever been a major leaguer (or anyone else for that matter) named Gorkys?

Elvis Andrus is in the Rangers organization now, thanks to the Teixeira deal. Brent Lillibridge might get a chance to make the roster out of Spring Training, though.

I guess the question was limited to players. We who heard him know that's what Casey Stengel was speaking. Later

Reminds me of Soriano. Good player - Yankees - Rangers - Nationals - Cubs. I guess thems are the breaks when you are a guy that's good enough to want on your team and good enough for another team to want.

that guy gorkys, his name reminded me of that "down to gorky park" line from the song "winds of change". so now i am involved in a flullblown youtube scorpions festival. i am being rocked like a hurricane. for me the offseason is shaping up pretty good so far.

I don't see how the Braves don't throw and eight-year, $300 million offer at A-Rod now.

That's right, I forgot Andrus was dealt away. Lillibridge - who came over from Pittsburgh in the Gonzalez/LaRoche deal - has been getting some good ink too.
