Memories of Chip Ambres

Well there was one.

]The Padres agreed to terms with two minor league free agents: Chip Ambres, for his competence at all three outfields spots and right-handed power; and right-hander Adam Bass, for his track record as a strike-thrower with a low-90s fastball. Ambres, who played for the Mets' Triple-A club last year, is out of minor league options but could open the season in Triple-A without being exposed to waivers. Bass, a former Diamondbacks prospect, is a candidate for middle relief.

One Met hit and he winds up getting an epynonymous game named for him.

Economy, baby!

He also got one day as the UMDB hit leader. He's the lowest ranked Met (at 819 out of 821) to get a win.

He has more wins than Todd Hundley, Robin Ventura, Ray Knight, Carlos Delgado, and many others.

He had nothing left to prove in AAA; at this point either he can survive as a major league reserve or he can't. I always root for guys like that. Hopefully the Padres give him a spot on the 25.
