Rubin: Omar in DR

Getting Itchy for Met stuff, I'm stealing Rubin's blog in whole:

Omar watching winter ball in Dominican Republic
Omar Minaya spent the past several days in the Dominican Republic. Here’s a message I just received from a source in that country:

“Omar Minaya has been here since last Wednesday and he was seen at several winter baseball games. He was interviewed Sunday and he said that he was watching Carlos Gómez (who is going to get married next Saturday in Santiago, with Moisés Alou his best man and other Mets players at the event). Minaya denied any interest in José Guillén, the free-agent outfielder who played with the Seattle Mariners last season.

Minaya was staying at Casa de Campo, a tourist complex in La Romana where people like Gloria Estefan, Shakira, Enrique Iglesias, P.Diddy, Leonardo Dicaprio, and others, have places. Sammy Sosa is going to celebrate his birthday there next Saturday, and he will invite a lot of people related to the baseball industry.

As you know, the Mets are building a huge academy in Boca Chica and I assume they came to see how their project is running.”
The Mets are building an academy in a place called Girl's Mouth?

Wifey Watchers, keep an eye on the Dominican press for the name and image of the lucky bride of young Sr. Gómez.

Rubin is really scraping the bottom of the barrel for news, curious to me that Alou is the best man for Gomez, he's like twenty years older than him.

See, it's not much news, but you found something to respond to.

Rubin --- who's good (good to me, anyhow) about publishing facts instead of rumors --- isn't nearly as desperate for news to publish as I am desperate for news to read.

Must get pics of the wedding for Wifey Watch.

The surprising thing to me about Alou being best man isn't the age difference. I'm more surprised that they even know each other. If I remember correctly, they probably weren't on the active roster together for more than a week or two the entire season.

Also WTF Sosa?, you can't have a big birthday bash the night Gomez is getting married, will he invite Alou to go and perhaps force the best man to leave his mates wedding.

that sucks if you are one of carlos gomez's best pals and he goes off to the bigs for a few weeks and comes back with moises alou instead of you as his best man.

Any time I've been asked to be in a wedding party, I've wished that Moises Alou was available to step in for me.

They both live in the Dominican Republic, I think both in Santiago. They could well know each other even if they played for other teams.

Just make sure his hands don't touch the rings.

Speaking of Sammy Sosa...

If Lastings gets traded, are we looking at Sammy at Shea to replace him in right as a stop gap until Gomez is ready?

Supposedly he and Omar are tight, and there have been stories of Met interest in the past. Can he be worse than Green? Probably a little more pop but lower average?

Not advocating, mind you. Just wondering.

God no. I want somebody who can play defense in right field.

Victor Diaz still haunts me.
