Winter Meeting/ Roster Stuff

With the signing of Stokes, it appears that the Mets now have 3 or 4 open roster spots.
The deadline for protecting minor leaguers from the Rule V Draft (by adding them to the major league roster) has passed. And Omar didn't add anyone.

So, with open spots on the roster going into the meetings, the alternatives seem to be:
1) Omar will draft some players in the upcoming draft. (They would have to stay on the 25 man roster all seasons, with some minor rule exceptions, or potentially be lost).
2) The Mets will sign some free agents. (or wait to sign players who are not offered eligibility or released).
3) There will be some deals in which 40 man roster level players will be acquired.

Which do you think is the most likely?
Why?

They will add some players to the 40-man roster shortly before the deadline.

A Rule 5 preview posted at baseballprospectus.com mentions two potential 3rd-string catchers: Tony Richie of the Cubs and Chris Stewart of the Rangers.

I don't mind the Mets taking a flyer on a reserve catcher or a bullpenny type this way at all. They did last year with that RP from the Giants who never arrived. Whatshisname, you know.

Tony Richie is my new hope.

I'd try to get that D'Antona guy after the Rule V, convert him to a full-time catcher in the minors, and see if you could turn him into Russell Martin.

It looks like the catching thing is something he didn't do in college at all, but he's apparently got some kind of rifle arm, sez BA when he was in college. He'll be 26 in May and they're leaving him unprotected for the 2nd year in a row so he could probably be had for a song.

If it doesn't work out, you've got a fairly versatile AAAA guy with some pop.
