I was born into the original Sesame Street demographic -- I was 3 when it debuted and watched it every day.

I remember Elmo when he first came out, he wasn't as bad as he is now, not that I've really seen the show in the past 15 years.

It was a horrible time. The juveniles were kicking the old schoolers to the curb left and right. Muppet Babies busting in on the Muppets. Tiny Toons giving the bum's rush to the Loony Tunes crowd. At the center of it all was Elmo. The 'Mo, as he was known in the bunco circuits up and down the East Coast. And they're all nephews and nieces, see, 'cuz the original crowd was always sex-free. How's that for a bum deal?

The show had to grow; of course it's different now than it was then. We rented the "Sesame Street: Old School" DVDs, and were, quite frankly, somewhere between horrified and confused. Considering it's part of our daily TV diet, I'm a big fan, and I've even grown to love and appreciate Elmo.

Yabbut, last time, Junior Bucket wasn't too familiar with Sesame Street. Now he knows more characters than I do. He also seems to like the Count. And he's down with Grover.
