Miggy Tejada to Houston ...

Frayed Knot

for a boatload (4 or 5) of prospects - including ... OF Luke Scott, RHP Matt Albers, LHP Troy Patton, 3B Mike Costanzo and perhaps another player, a person with knowledge of the talks has confirmed to the Houston Chronicle.

Patton is the biggest prize as far as I can tell.
Tejada is signed for another two years. Not sure if they intend to keep him at SS (where the defensively superior Adam Everett is recovering from whatever made him miss the 2nd half of last season) or maybe 3rd (where Ty Wigginton was playing last year) or something else.

5 guys for Tejada? Wow. Seems like an awfully steep price.

And didn't the Angels offer a better package to the Os a while back?

The initial (and obviously small sample so far) reaction from Houston fans is that they don't like it one little bit -- especially, I guess, because SS isn't a yawning need of theirs so long as Everett is healthy again by April.

My reaction is Good for the Orioles. Five guys for one, especially one who's eating up the payroll and playing woth a sour attitude, is a pretty good haul.

This may improve Houston but I doubt it'll be much of a better solution for Tejada's desire to win.

You would think going to Houston and that Park would motivate a guy, we'll see though. Seems like a whole lot for a player that's not had a great year since 04.

Huh. Never thought Houston would be where he'd end up.

Everett is on the short list of guys who contend for "worst everyday player in the league." SS was a need for the Astros.

On the plus side he plays just about every day, last season he only played in 133 games but the previous six seasons he played in every game and the two seasons previous to those he missed only a hand full of games.

Might look like a bad deal tomorrow if Miggy is named in the Mitchell report.

I imagine management in Houston has thought about that so either they got advance notice that Tejada is not on the list or they don't care either way, I'm going with the latter.

Heck, check out this Astros deal:

Pitcher Ryan Houston was claimed Wednesday by the Houston Astros off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays.

Know what this means? He'll be the only major-leaguers to wear his name on the FRONT of his jersey for road games.

I'd be even cooler if he were named Ryan Astros.

miggy steroids? that's raffy being... oh shit, I just lied to the congress...let me point a finger to the biggest star i can so that media coverage can get off of me.

I have no respect for raffy.

miggy on the other had, 5th longest games played streak. his had broke this year, and so he finally had to get on the dl, but he'll play 162 for the astros, and they'll be better because of him for now. but yeah, they did give up a lot.

They don't need Everett, they're packaging him in a three-way, in some kind of convoluted deal that costs us Reyes, Maine, Chavez, Mulvey, Go-Go, and, um, Jon Niese, but lands us Santana, Oswalt and Everett.

No, he played for the White Sox. But Roy Lee Jackson did play for the Jackson Mets.

You are 100% correct.

I'm stunned. I would've bet my house that he played for the BoSox.

I'm usually good about stuff like that. My bad.

Didn't Boston have a stint with us, too? So when he wore the road uni, both '86 World Series teams were represented.
