Ozzie Guillen, both of his first two years, walked only 12 times in over a 150 games played, a record that he set and equaled. He would go on to break that record with an 11 in 1991 and a 10 in 1996. How embarrassing. How hard to beat. He is now a similarly shameless manager. Which ex-Met's record did he break?

Yeah, not everybody so fast. Try this one on: Three Met starters won ERA titles after being dealt by the Mets. Who are these guys?

Ryan won an ERA title with Houston in a year when he was 8-16. Are you asking for guys who won in the year immediately folllowing their departure? I'll guess Seaver is one.

Ryan is correct. George Thomas Seaver won three ERA titles in four years from 1970 to 1973, all with the Mets. Two more fellas. They don't have to have won in the year after they were traded, as the correctness of Ryan has demonstrated.

Correct and correct. Buzz could never break an unbreakable Mets rotation, so he was sold to Atlanta, where he was suddenly busted up to 218 innings, won an ERA title, and never pitched effectively again. The Mets might have known he was capable of something like that, as he went something like 44-18 in the minors.

As I've been reviewing Mets minor league stats, I've seen a bunch of really impressive seasons. I then think, wow, this guy could turn out to be pretty good and I momentarily get a surge of excitement. Then I realize that the player is now deep into his fifties and it's become too late for him to fulfill his promise.

No. The ex-Met, for what it's worth, didn't set the record with the Mets.

"Buzz Capray" was the best he could do.

Yeah, but, next to the his crosstown rival Guillen, Dunston was downright picky about swinging the bat. I'll hint this one out of youse so's'n we can close the book on it before the holidays. Five big fat hints coming. He had a great nickname. He had two tours of duty with the Mets. I didn't think he was very good. Nonetheless, when he was traded the second time, many on the team that received him would consider the deal the turning point to a championship. It were a challenge trade.
