Yes, you must take the band the Adult Contempory radio format was invented for. And your little dog too!

Hold the Line (with orchestral/choral accompaniment!)

It's got to be Africa, great song, those videos are fun to watch.

Toto is full of guys with funny head twitches. It's like the band nerds who grew up and became art-rock nerds --- sticking it to the jocks who used to beat them up by appearing with perms in videos as a sexy Nairobi libarian slips out of her cool reserve to peek over her glasses at their meatless band nerd asses.

Somewhere their jock tormentors were listening to "Rock You Like a Hurricane" and saying, "So what, those guys still suck."

They put enough into the arrangements --- what with their 11-man lineup --- that each of the songs has its saving graces. I'll pull for Africa. Why not?

No, it's "I left my brains down in Africa."

I remember seeing that "99" clip, I think, on Don Kirschner's Rock Concert. Could be wrong.

A friend of mine went to highschool with the members of Toto. He thought they were arrogant jerks who got to miss school to play gigs. They also pretty much sucked.

Is your friend Valadius's dad?

"Gonna take some time to do the things we never had."
That'll get you an F in High School English.

From what I know of Valadius, no. Why? Did his dad go to school with my friend... and Toto too?

You're both wrong: "I had the runs down in Africa."

That "Hold the Line" is just orchestral wanking. They're just playing symphonic chords.

Toto IV was the Album of the Year in 1982, somehow. Beat out these nominees:

John Cougar - American Fool
Donald Fagen - The Nightfly
Billy Joel - The Nylon Curtain
Paul McCartney - Tug Of War

Of the nominees, I vote Fagan.

Tug of War is pretty good, though.

Wasn't the deal with Toto that they were a bunch of crack studio musicians who teamed up to see what they could do on their own ... and in doing so found out that that something was to put down tracks that, while technically good, were ultimatley mediocre middle of the road stuff?

Africa was their best tune.
