Reintroducing Myself/Catching Up

After some time away, I'm back. I've had several names over the history of the CPF, but my most recent one was ScarletKnight41. Things are a bit calmer now, so I decided to come back. I figured that a fresh start calls for a fresh identity.

So here's what's been going on with me since I left. for anyone who's interested.

In March, I reached a point of overwhelm. I had two classes plus an internship, and one of the classes was an unmitigated disaster (the teacher took ill right before class started, there was a litany of substitute teachers, and once we got a permanent sub and seemed to be on track, she left on an extended vacation). I got to a point where I was just frayed, and I cut back on several things in order to keep from going totally nuts.

April was interesting. Thankfully the big flood didn't hurt the family, but I was activated by the CERT team. There was also serious flooding at the David Sarnoff Library, where I was doing my internship -- thankfully there are archival restoration places that specialize in such disasters, and we were able to raise the funds to pay for those services.

May wasn't bad - the horrible semester finally ended, and I had three weeks off before the start of summer classes. I decided to take my summer classes on campus (everything up until that point had been online). It was an adjustment having to commute for classes and having to work the family's schedule around my school schedule.

June was one of the craziest times of my life. I had the condensed summer class, which was fun but a lot of work, plus tons of things were going on. I had one week that included a midterm presentation, my son's middle school graduation, my daughter's high school graduation, taking my daughter to freshman orientation at college, and leaving for the American Library Association's annual conference (where I ran into Willets Point ). I kept calling this week the 800 pound gorilla on my calendar - it was all good, but it was a lot all on top of each other.

In July I finished my first summer class, left for an amazing week's vacation in Switzerland with the family, and started the second summer class. That class, Social Software Literacy, was great - I learned about a lot of fabulous and practical Web 2.0 tools.

In August I finally finished my classes, and then worked on getting my daughter prepared to leave for college.

September was focused on getting all three kids ready for new schools (college, high school and middle school). It also focused on the job hunt. I thought that I had my dream job in the bag, but they wound up filling it in-house. So I'm in the market for a job. If I can't get the ideal job then I'm going to hold out for the ideal logistics, since I still have my regular after-school chauffeuring job ahead of me for the next several years.

I spent much of October helping prepare for the annual War of the Worlds re-enactment at the Sarnoff Library, which was a lot of fun. We're already gearing up for next year, which is the 70th anniversary of the original broadcast. Also, I technically graduated in October. I say technically because 1) I don't have my convocation ceremony until this coming May; and 2) they still haven't sent me my diploma yet. But my transcript shows that I've graduated, which was good enough for the state to issue me my Professional Librarian Certificate :)

So that brings me up to date. I'm finally at a point where things are reasonably calm around here, so I decided that it was the right time to dip a toe back into the pool.

As to themetfairy, btw, it's the result of my son's idea. We were talking about something, and he made a comment about The Mets Fairy. I made a face, envisioning something less than attractive, and he said that I was wrong - it would be a miniature Mr. Met with wings. The mental image amused me, so I decided to play around with Fireworks to create one. Once I did, I decided to use it as my new identity/avatar.

Great to have you back, Lord knows I have asked you enough times when you were coming back.

I expect a full report like this from iramets as to how he spent his months in exile.

Welcome back Mom, you've been missed.

Can we get a bigger shot of your avatar? This Met fairy intrigues me.

When Metfairy reaches the Rusty Staub posting level, we should hold a party.

Insane. I posted two posts here --- not only for a different thread, but a different forum. Insane.

The school stuff and the 800 pound gorilla on the calendar kept me pretty tied up for a while.

I'd post the lyrics to "Welcome Back Kottier Theme" but I'd think Kase might hunt me down.

Is Fireworks the next Photoshop? Or are they two different kind of image manipulators?

I suppose the two programs are cousins. I purchased Fireworks along with Dreamweaver and Flash for a course I took two years ago, so that's what I have on my computer.

Nice to have you back. With the recent return of iramets, it's now starting to resemble a CPF reunion.

Hopefully, Slugger, old original jb, and Swan Swan H (gf212121) will come and join the party.

Don't believe that stuff about her schedule freeing up. She's back because I emailed her and asked her to come back. This is all me.

You're welcome everyone.

LOL - you were definitely another reason :)

BTW, forget that part in my introductory post about waiting for my diploma. Freakin' Rutgers came through for me, and it arrived here today!

I recently did an internet search for stuff on ex-Met prospect Brian Cole, and came across two old articles by someone named Sharon that were from a Mets website.
Was that you?
I didn't know how to contact you to ask.
