Edgy I know first base is bad but we have to have some one playing the postition, maybe Anderson?

ScarletKnight41

The Mets lead 2-0 after two innings.

TheOldMole
Aug 07 2005 08:52 PM

Two in the books, we hold to the 2-0 lead.

TheOldMole
Aug 07 2005 08:54 PM

Anderson a nifty play at first.

Edgy DC
Aug 07 2005 09:00 PM

Anderson is indeed playing first.

Dag nabbit, I'm blocked out.

Fellas, this isn't a national broadcast. It's a national cablecast. I don't subscribe to cable. I subscribe DSL service and MLB video. Where's my game?

TheOldMole
Aug 07 2005 09:07 PM

Full of Mets, and David Wright...

TheOldMole
Aug 07 2005 09:19 PM

Piazza makes it 4-0.

TheOldMole
Aug 07 2005 09:23 PM

Cubs in order in the 4th.

TheOldMole
Aug 07 2005 09:28 PM

And Jose gets his 20th straight game.

Edgy DC
Aug 07 2005 09:40 PM

Zambrano goes down with a back injury.

The Cubs' Zambrano.

Edgy DC
Aug 07 2005 09:43 PM

Beltran, just when he was tied for the lowest average in the batting order, singles against the new Cub pitcher Wuertz (huh?).

Licky-boom-boom down!

OE: Floyd singles him around to third while I'm typing l-b-b. d.

Edgy DC
Aug 07 2005 09:46 PM

Ground-out RBI by Wright makes it 5-0.

Edgy DC
Aug 07 2005 09:58 PM

Victor doing it without strikeouts again tonight.

Edgy DC
Aug 07 2005 10:07 PM

Nuova now pitching for Chicago.

This is the Bullpen of Extraneous U's.

What a difference 5 days makes.
4 HRs inside 2 innings on Tuesday vs 3 singles thru 7 tonight

Elster88
Aug 07 2005 10:12 PM

Yay for Zambrano.

Elster88
Aug 07 2005 10:13 PM

Hey, just think if we had held onto one of those leads against Milwaukee.

Edgy DC
Aug 07 2005 10:18 PM

Or both.

Of course, The Better Zambrano is partially to blame for that.

Eighty pitchers through seven and he has a shot to finish.

Elster88
Aug 07 2005 10:20 PM

Bang, pow.

Frayed Knot
Aug 07 2005 10:22 PM

Floyd "ruins" our singles only streak.

Aug 07 2005 10:22 PM

Thank you, Cliff.

I tuned into this game in the third inning and heard that Zambrano was struggling and though the worst. It was nice to hear that it was the OTHER Zambrano.

He survives the eighth.

Let him hit, Willie.

Rockin' Doc
Aug 07 2005 10:36 PM

Victor has looked sharp tonight. Carlos was pretty wild and couldn't get the third strike on hitters. The Mets hitters repeatedly fouled off 2 strike pitches. Carlos had thrown around 80 pitches in his 3 innings of work. Of course, his defense did little to help him out.

I'm just glad the correct Zambrano pitched well tonight.

Edgy DC
Aug 07 2005 10:38 PM

Offerman to pinch hit.

Hey, Willie, nothing personal but... BOO!

Frayed Knot
Aug 07 2005 10:42 PM

]He survives the eighth with the shutout intact.

Umm, no he didn't.

Rockin' Doc

Great effort from Victor Zambrano tonight.

Looks like Heilman will come out to finish this one off.

TheOldMole
Aug 07 2005 10:47 PM

Another nice pick by Anderson for our number one, and an efficient K by Heillman for the second.

ScarletKnight41

The Mets Win! The Mets Win!

The Mets sweep the Cubs!

Edgy DC
Aug 07 2005 10:50 PM

As this winds down, I'm not assuming anything but...

Florida 2, Cincinnati 0

San Diego 3, Washington 0

Milwaukee 2, Philadelphia 0

St. Louis 5, Atlanta 4 (on a walkoff grand slam in the bottom of the ninth by Eckstein)

The teams ahead of the Mets in the division are also the only ones ahead of them in the wildcard race, with Houston playing the part of Atlanta. Houston won tonight, but making up ground on three games ahead in the division and three ahead in the wildcard race is a good. night's. baseball.

As I type, Victor-y is final.

Edgy DC
Aug 07 2005 10:53 PM

First win in 30 days for Victor.

First loss since June 22nd for Carlos.

Great series, the Cubs came in tied with the Mets in the WC and leave cursing NY again, Victor was great tonight, as Cliff Floyd is saying rightnow on the FAN, "we need to take this on the road and win games"..here here.

Frayed Knot
Aug 07 2005 10:57 PM

Well, 4 of 6 is certainly OK. It just didn't come the way one would expect it and it certainly could have been better.

]St. Louis 5, Atlanta 4 (on a walkoff grand slam in the bottom of the ninth by Eckstein)

Weird stat of the night:
David Eckstein has 22 career HRs; 4 of those are Grand-Slams and, of those four, two are walk-offs!
Among active players, only A-Rod and Steve Finley have as many as 2 WOGSs and both of them have considerably more careers HRs to draw from.

Centerfield
Aug 08 2005 04:24 PM

David Eckstein = Clutch

BTW, where's our sweeps thread? Do we have one?

Edgy DC
Aug 08 2005 04:51 PM

I dub thee "Sweepmeister."

A sweep is not complete until Centerfield records it in the soon-to-be-established Sweep Thread.
