I'm very curious how Randa earned the designation professional hitter. Anyone have a story behind that?

Also, is it just me or does it seem that Randa has played an inordinate number of games against the Mets this season?

There are so many better options to start at first base than Offerman. One of them is in the broadcast booth.

Wright with a blooper to drive in Cairo. 1-0 Metropolitans.

Aargh! I'm posting as Vince!!!

Floyd drives one 400 feet for naught, but a jam-flare by Wright plates one.

Beltran scores on the double steal!

Bam! Can't remember the last time I saw a double-steal work.

looked to me like he had a better chance of tagging wright out than throwing out beltran at the plate....

NICE play tho!

Cliff Floyd: Oh for 800 feet.

Yea Mr. Wright! A 2-rbi double makes it 4-0 Mets!

I heart David Wright.

I heart him in that way that a ten-year-old hearts his Christmas present.

I can't believe he's mine.

Another shortstop with a pourous glove. Ex.

It is kind of hard to believe. Hopefully you'll be saying the same thing about Beltran one day.

Props to Cameron and Offerman for getting Wright home there. Often it seems the Mets settle for one big hit an inning, rather than 2. Huge, huge, huge.

Seven thousand twelve (or whatever) without a no-hitter.

Mr. Wright says Ka-Boom! A three run homer makes it 8-0 Mets.

Mr. Wright has 5 RBIs so far tonight.

I love that boy!

That also puts Wright over .300.

That's why Wright stopped. And even if he goes after him there the run will score during the chase.

For that play alone our mgr gets the name WWBB - at least for the night.

I ♥ Cammie also.

Keith Hernandez is the best, I love when he does games, Benson gets a hit.

on second thought, the second baseman appeared to be moving in the same direction as dw. i wasnt paying enough attention the first time, and thought it was the SS who recieved the throw from teh catcher, and therefore would have been moving towards dw.

never mind.

"He's a triple short of the cycle" is only slightly more meaningful than saying; 'I'm a million bucks short of being a millionaire'.

The guys in the booth were talking about Greene earlier --- saying he both looks and talks like Jef Spicoli.

Good night. Off to Metland...

Benson is brilliant tonight, he has retired sixteen straight Padres since giving up his only hit in the 3rd, and now he walks Green, and then he strikes out Nady, great stuff Kris.

Aug 11 2005 12:24 AM

David Wright didn't hit for the cycle but gets his 4th hit of the night with a single, Woodie on second base, Piazza hits a DP ball that Randa throws wide to first, Woodie out at 3rd, Wright at 2nd, Piazza at 1st, Cameron brings David home , good night all round.

Nice little ass kicking here. Benson with his 5th AB.

Bases juiced for Benson after the walk to Offerman,

Aug 11 2005 12:35 AM

Shit, Benson fails in his bid to become the 29th Mets pitcher to throw a one hitter, Ross got a hit, Randa at the dish, Kris looking fot his third career shutout.

metirish
Aug 11 2005 12:38 AM

Randa gets a double, the 3rd hit for the Padres, Ross to 3rd, Willie runs from the dugout and pulls Benson for Graves .

metirish
Aug 11 2005 12:42 AM

Graves of course gives up a hit and the score is 9 -1. DP ball ends the game, great night to be a Mets fan, will the Mets ever get a no hit game?,.

In the post game handshakes, Floyd and Wright kind of jumped sideways into each other, which I guess is what they were doing in the picture in the Caption This thread. Looks like Wright has made a friend, and isn't just a bellboy.

Also a hilarious shot of two Padres fans looking at Wright's homer with their mouths wide open and "holy shit" looks.

Nice to get a laugher and rest the pen. I think tomorrow is a BIG GAME.

Wright's homer after the misguided intentional walk to Floyd was a thing of beauty. Nice W.

Wasn't that the first time the Mets has won a game that Offerman had started?

Why not let Benson blow his own shutout, man?

'learnin' about history ... havin' some food'

And just to head off any panic about the elbow when we don't see Reyes in this afternoon's lineup, Willie was planning on resting him today anyway.
Gary on the radio last night noted that he looked sluggish and was barely running out a grounder (he's also about 1 for his last 15).
