Glavine was the winning pitcher in the Mets' 7-3 victory against the Padres on July 20. Beginning with that start, he has walked two batters in 27 innings. His ERA is 3.48 in his last eight starts and, overall, at its second-lowest point this season.

Reyes getting his second day off of the year.
MFS62 Aug 11 2005 03:09 PM |
When I read that Reyes would be getting the day off, I wondered who would be playing short in his place. I completely forgot that Woodward had been a regular at that position for the Jays. I feel a little better now, and am trying to remove the image of Jose Offerman at shortstop (his original position) from my mind.

I'm still trying to remove the image of Offerman at any position on the field from my mind.

How's a white guy get named Khalil?
MFS62 Aug 11 2005 03:21 PM |
And why is her brother wearing a f'n Yankees cap?
Willets Point Aug 11 2005 03:23 PM |
I once met a Boston sculptor named Khalil Gibran and yeah he was a white guy of Lebanese ancestory. He was really funny and insightful.
cooby Aug 11 2005 03:32 PM |
Did he write this (The Prophet, in case the picture doesn't work)? It's good...
Willets Point Aug 11 2005 03:36 PM |
No but he's related to that guy.
cooby Aug 11 2005 03:38 PM |
Wow, that is very neat. That book is one of my treasured possessions
soupcan Aug 11 2005 03:39 PM |
Ahem.

Woody sets 'em down 1-2-3.
Edgy DC Aug 11 2005 03:46 PM |
Yeah, but when our number-seven slot comes around, then we'll see who has the best woody.
soupcan Aug 11 2005 03:51 PM |
You're saying that both teams have wood?
Edgy DC Aug 11 2005 04:04 PM |
We lose the first Wood-man matchup.

Glavine breaks up the perfect game with a single. Kazuo strikes out.

Glavine's a strikeout machine.
Elster88 Aug 11 2005 04:17 PM |
A two-out professional double causes no damage. 3 quick scoreless innings.
Centerfield Aug 11 2005 04:28 PM |
Cliff Floyd doubles in Beltran. 1-0 good guys.
Elster88 Aug 11 2005 04:29 PM |
Beltran's tenth steal prior to Floyd's double makes him the sixth Met to have double digit steals this year.
seawolf17 Aug 11 2005 04:35 PM |
And the first time the Mets have done so since 1989:
Edgy DC Aug 11 2005 04:38 PM |
Giveback!
Willets Point Aug 11 2005 04:40 PM |
Ugh, did you have to remind me of Juan Samuel?
Elster88 Aug 11 2005 04:41 PM |
Three singles.
seawolf17 Aug 11 2005 04:42 PM |
Hey, I have just as many nightmares as you do. At least Beltran's steal erased that piece of him from the Mets record books.
MFS62 Aug 11 2005 04:43 PM |
Can someone of the Mets please figure out how to pitch to Randa (is he still mad at us for trading him?) and the entire Giles family?
Elster88 Aug 11 2005 04:46 PM |
Tom Glavine, professional hitter.
seawolf17 Aug 11 2005 04:46 PM |
This doesn't fit in this IGT, but I found this Brian Bohanon photo for my avatar, and I figured I'd stick it in here.
seawolf17 Aug 11 2005 04:47 PM |
Willie said earlier this season that if he was stuck, he'd turn to Glavine to pinch-hit. Not a terrible idea in the sixteenth inning or something crazy.

Frayed Knot Aug 11 2005 04:50 PM |
I noticed that in the Braves/Giants game that went 12 innings the other day both managers used pitchers as PHers (to hit for other pitchers). I don't think either had a hit.
Centerfield Aug 11 2005 05:14 PM |
Glavine 3 for 3.
Edgy DC Aug 11 2005 05:16 PM |
First would be fine.
MFS62 Aug 11 2005 05:17 PM |
Maybe batting coach?
KC Aug 11 2005 05:23 PM |
OMG, Cammie and Beltran on a wicked collision in center.
ABG Aug 11 2005 05:23 PM |
Oh Fuck.
KC Aug 11 2005 05:25 PM |
Both players were down for at least a minute.
Centerfield Aug 11 2005 05:29 PM |
Cammie going out on a stretcher. Beltran appears to have some shoulder injury.

Beltran able to walk off the field. Cammie is strapped to a board and will
Edgy DC Aug 11 2005 05:33 PM |
Holy crap.
ScarletKnight41 Aug 11 2005 05:35 PM |
Just stomach churning stuff. I hope Cammie's ok.
ABG Aug 11 2005 05:37 PM |
In relatively unimportant news, 2-1 Padres on Randa's single.
Beenso Aug 11 2005 05:39 PM |
that was just hard to watch. hopefully they are both ok.
Edgy DC Aug 11 2005 05:48 PM |
Floyd plunked on the knee.
willpie Aug 11 2005 05:48 PM |
I can't think of anything to say that isn't the f-word.

Jesus, Floyd hit on knee bu Otsuka ... you could hear bone!
seawolf17 Aug 11 2005 05:48 PM |
DAMMIT! What the hell is going on out there?
ABG Aug 11 2005 05:49 PM |
Wow. Just...wow.
Edgy DC Aug 11 2005 05:51 PM |
I want this game badly, but Cliff should be out of it.
Beenso Aug 11 2005 05:51 PM |

Nymr83 Aug 11 2005 05:52 PM |
i dont care if that was intentional or not...bean their leadoff man.
Beenso Aug 11 2005 05:53 PM |
i think the mets might be outnumbered in the brawl though.

Today would be a good day to rally for an inspiring win.
seawolf17 Aug 11 2005 06:02 PM |
I second willpie's thought.
seawolf17 Aug 11 2005 06:06 PM |
Ted Robinson reports that Cammy and Beltran are -- and I quote -- "alert." That really doesn't make me feel any better. Cammy's at the hospital, Beltran is still in the park.
KC Aug 11 2005 06:10 PM |
Pads win. Let's hope everyone is ok.
Centerfield Aug 11 2005 06:10 PM |
FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK
KC Aug 11 2005 06:11 PM |
Yeah, that too.

MLB netcast just cut out on me.
Nymr83 Aug 11 2005 06:16 PM |
i second that. the Mets should probably cut gerald williams and recall Victor Diaz from AAA immediately.
Edgy DC Aug 11 2005 06:17 PM |
I think that won't happen.
Edgy DC Aug 11 2005 06:21 PM |
How about that macabre detail from Ralph Kiner? Yeesh.
seawolf17 Aug 11 2005 06:23 PM |
Duq says Cameron is on his way to the hospital and had cuts on both lips. but was otherwise alert and responsive. Beltran -- at least for now -- is relatively okay, with a cut on his face and some shoulder soreness.
willpie Aug 11 2005 06:23 PM |
Ehhh, what was the macabre detail in question?
Edgy DC Aug 11 2005 06:26 PM |
He played in a game at Ebbets field when Pete Reiser (a young star who shortened his career considerably by running into fences in the pre-padding days) injured himself so badly he was given last rites on the field.
seawolf17 Aug 11 2005 06:44 PM |
SAN DIEGO (AP) -- New York Mets right fielder Mike Cameron was taken off the field on a stretcher following a frightening head-to-head collision with center fielder Carlos Beltran in the seventh inning of a 2-1 loss to the San Diego Padres on Thursday.

Petco Field turned into a house of horrors today.
Edgy DC Aug 14 2005 05:08 PM |
According to the guys in the booth today, Cliff Floyd reported a leftfield heckler, right after the collision, saying, "Hey, Floyd, you're next!"
ScarletKnight41 Aug 14 2005 05:11 PM |
Damn - I've met that heckler.
