Seo's doing some tap-dancing in the minefield but is getting away with it so far.

2-0 end of 3

Cooby: Sometimes, for a day or so, these ragtag outfields perform like heros.

Gerald Williams: Excuse me, but KABOOM!

I'll say this for Williams --- he's in the shape of someone ten years younger. It would be more comforting if he was better when he was ten years younger, but props to him.

Castro's feeling frisky today because he knows he can out-run the opposing catcher, something he can only claim while playing in the LA area - and even then it depends on which catcher they're using: Phillips, plus Bengie (but not Jose) Molina.

How many shutouts will Seo have to throw in order to win a spot in the rotation?

Edgy DC
Aug 13 2005 05:23 PM

Who is down?

martin
Aug 13 2005 05:50 PM

willie seems to be really vague about what happens with seo and trax. i dunno what i would do if i were him either. possibly the 6 man rotation that always gives pedro extra time.

seo is shutting teams down left and right, he cant be stopped.

TheOldMole
Aug 13 2005 05:51 PM

I don't suppose either Seo or Trachs could do the Smotlz/Righetti thang.

TheOldMole
Aug 13 2005 06:10 PM

Seo still shutting them down, going to the 7th inning stretch.

TheOldMole
Aug 13 2005 06:16 PM

Big K for Seo - out number one.

Double for Saenz, and the scoreless inning streak ends.

TheOldMole
Aug 13 2005 06:23 PM

And he holds it together, and gets out of the inning with minimal damage.

Cliffie just slides in under the tag for a leadoff double. Killer throw by Repko.

Small ball makes it 4-1 Mets.

Diaz plates him with a sacrifice fly.

Dodger management reviewing the paperwork from the Burnitz deal, wondering what the organization was thinking.

TheOldMole

And they get the run back. Victor Diaz does the job with a SF.

Anybody up in the pen for the eighth?

ScarletKnight41
Aug 13 2005 06:43 PM

No, but the Mets are pinch hitting for Seo in the 9th. I suspect Looper will come in to try for the save.

Edgy DC
Aug 13 2005 06:45 PM

Seo's line: 8 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 SO, 0 HR.

Excellent.

Gerald Williams is doing his Jackie Robinson imitation today, isn't he?

Aug 13 2005 06:47 PM

Gerald freaking Williams steals third, Phillips threw the ball into left field and Willams strolls home to make it 5 - 1..WOW

That's my Looper.

Met victory.

It would be a travesty to do anything BUT start Seo for the rest of the season. Seo's line this year in the bigs:

1.35 ERA, 0.72 WHIP, 6.48 K/9, 1.35 BB/9, 4.8 K/BB, 0.81 HR/9

Solid everything, all across the board. The K rate isn't great but it's better than average and given how good his command has been, it doesn't matter quite as much.

That K rate, by the way, is STILL better than every other starter on the Mets not named Pedro, basically making Seo our second-most dominant starter.

Now, he's clearly not going to stay this dominant, but looking at his minor league stats (minus the 13-run "my wife's having a baby!" start), he certainly looks like as good a bet as Zambrano, Glavine or Trachsel. Maybe Benson too, since Seo's got a better K rate.

117 IP, 3.46 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 0.77 HR/9, 8.31 K/9, 2.31 BB/9, 3.6 K/BB

Oh, and if Seo had managed to put up his 135 total K's in the bigs, he'd be in 10th place in the NL right now--sandwiched between Smoltz & Zambrano.

Seriously, guys, if it had been a Petit or Kazmir putting these numbers up in AAA, then bettering them over 5 big league starts, we'd have been through the roof about him, but since it's "only" Seo, we've been turning something of a blind eye. Hell, if it had been Zambrano, who's two years older than Seo, giving us 5 starts like this, we'd have been wetting ourselves and calling Peterson a genius.

Start him, and figure out just what we have on our hands for 2006.

Cooby is a bit of a psychic, methinks. She always seems to know too much.

Good heavens no. I'm so non-psychic that I usually don't even know what happened AFTER it happened.

I've just seen this kinda thing happen before :)
