1986- our favorite year. But basically, the music was not wonderful.
In 1986, I worked at a record store. That didn't help me much; I still had to go to Columbia House and CDNow to hear snippets of 50 or so songs on the lists I found. I still couldn't remember some of them.
My list extends to 27 for one simple reason: I just couldn't leave Huey off, but that song just doesn't fit in any higher up on my 'chart'. Quite honestly, there are probably only about ten songs on here that I would make an effort to ever hear again.
1986 was proclaimed as "Whitney Houston's Breakout Year". Too bad, Screech, you didn't make my list. And you never will.

Holy cow. That's a lot of bad stuff. 'Holding Back The Years' is probably my favorite out of the list. But, just glancing at the '86 Hot 100, I'd have to throw in 'Kiss' by Prince, and the Dream Academy's 'Life In A Northern Town.'

Lay off. Well, I don't think any of them made my final 30, anyhow, but...
A lot of stuff I was expecting to grab in 1985 was actually '86: Peter Gabriel's So, Love and Rockets' Express, and most of the songs that were subsequently included on the 1987 soundtrack to Some Kind of Wonderful.
I do get Robert Palmer's Riptide, which I wasn't expecting.

Don't know exactly when. I just remember it being in the opening credits, which gave it instant status with me! It might have even been the Sid Fernandez episode.
1986 to me means Mets/Magnum/Fernandez.

Some say REM's Lifes Rich Pageant (1986) was their best record I don't but it leads of with two of their best songs: Begin the Begin and These Days. I'd take either of both on this list.
...and if we added "Don't Let's Start" from They Might Be Giants, we'd only be up to 30.

The title track was from '81, and inspired the script, but The Year of the Mets gets "Shellshock," "Left of Center," and "Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want."

"Still the Night" or "Angels" could easily crack this list.
