Actually they're in anaheim right now but you get the idea.

No surprise , they never really did seem to have confidence in him, plus working under two General Managers has to be tough, did the owner hire him or did the GM's?

Funny timing.

Anybody thinking he's taking the fall for Raffy?
|
metirish Aug 04 2005 02:31 PM |
Not really Cooby, if anything the Raffy thing might have delayed his firing.

Tough nuts for him. Come on back as a coach, Maz!

He should have said "I don't want Raffy back on this team," knowing that he was going to be fired anyway. In this scenario, he could have come out smelling like a rose by forcing Angelos the lawyer to have to go to bat for Palmeiro.

Serves him right for going over to the "Dark side" when he blew the whistle on the Interference play when we played the Yanks.

Former Mets third base coach Sam Perlozzo takes over as interim manager for the rest of the season...
|
Yancy Street Gang Aug 04 2005 03:07 PM |
So who replaced him?
|
Edgy DC Aug 04 2005 03:13 PM |
Perlozzo maintains, to some extent, the Metly quotient in the manager's club.

That's RIGHT... I forgot that. He is dead to me.

Perlozzo was a successful Tides manager when he was promoted to The Big Club for the stretch run (such as it was) in '86. I seem to recall Davey then or later grumbling about Cashen sticking him there, sensing a possible replacement hovering over his shoulder.

You know, you're right, why should he try to get the most for the team he is currently employed by? Wouldn't he be better served looking out for the interests of the team that is opposing his, because he happened to play for them ten years ago?
|
MFS62 Aug 04 2005 04:07 PM |
Elster, of course he should. But by doing that, he officially cut his ties with the Mets. I couldn't care less what has happened to him since.
|
Edgy DC Aug 04 2005 04:10 PM |
Seems to me that the ties were cut, such as they were, by the Mets, when they waived him in 1989.
