The Saugerties Art Tour, it's third year of existence, my second year of participation, and...

MY FIRST SALE!

A print, one of my computer drawings. Black and white, a reclining nude copied, inverted, flipflopped and pasted side by side with the original.

And maybe a commission - someone to get back to me about doing a computer-pointillist painting from a photo of her husband playing baseball I have a couple of paintings of five-year-olds playing ball, and she thought maybe I could bring the same feeling to a 60-year-old.

Not mosaic - that really needs to be three dimensional. No, this is essentially just a drawing involving a mirror image - the same image twice, but flipped and inverted.

Ah yes! Now that I found the art on your website I can see better what you mean. Very neat, I love the "Nude with Mouse", there's got to be a story behind that..... :)

PS, you did that with Microsoft Paint? Awesome!

Wish me luck...today is the second day of the tour. And it's scheduled to be 98 and humid again, so the number of people driving around to a studio tour will be probably as few as yesterday.

No real story about the nude with mouse...I had the nude, and she looked somewhat incomplete, so I put a mouse in her hand.

Well, that doesn't sound quite right..."had the nude." I work from life some - mostly my black and white drawings -- from photographs more often, because you can keep them around longer, and my work tends to be kinda slow and painstaking. It's always been that way, it seems...I'm fatally attracted to art forms that are long and boring in the actual execution.

I use Microsoft Paint because better programs won't do exactly what I want. The MSP paintbrush tool makes these little 20-sided almost-circles, that are a flat color. The Photoshop paintbrush tool makes things that are much much closer to actual circles, and give the illusion of roundness because the color fades as you get to the outer perimeter (as you can see, I do not have the technical vocabulary to describe any of this). But when you save the image, Photoshop holds the color true, which is what most people want, which is why it's a better and more expensive program. But with MSP, what was a flat color when you made it, deteriorates when you save it. In a large area, it only deteriorates around the edges. and remains flat in the center.

Once you realize that this is goung to happen, you can work with it. I'll do a very small area at a time (magnified) leaving some space between the paintbrush dots, then save it, get the mottling that comes from the deterioration, then go back and work the area some more, then save again.

This is relentlessly time-consuming, but it beats cleaning brushes.

It is wonderful, and obviously worth the time and effort!

Re: Nude with Mouse

I love her smile, and I love the whimsy that you don't very often see with Nudes

BTW, it's okay, I know exactly what you are saying here
