Mets at 8-1

I'm visiting Las Vegas. I went to a sports book today (Mandalay Bay--very nice) and put down $20 on the Mets to win the World Series. I did it because I think they are quite capable of winning, getting 8 to 1 is more than I expected (especially because the odds will shorten if they get Santana), and as a symbol of support and confidence in my team.

Regardless of my rationale, do you think that I wasted $20 (ignore the fact that they have my money for 10 months)?

Right now, this team does not have a 12.5% chance of winning the WS.

That said, I would have done exactly as you, and for exactly the same reasons.

What were the odds for, say, the NL pennant? Or NL East?

Was there a few weeks ago and got my annual $20 ticket. Wifey bought her father, a Bostonian, a ticket with the BoSox to win. That, I believe, was 4-1.

The Mets and Cubs are both the NL favorite at 4-1 to win the NL and both are 8-1 to win the WS.

With Santana, the odds on the Mets winning the WS went from 8-1 to 5-1.

5-1 is a great price, I'll be having a bit of that.
