Stat of the Day with the statistical analysis of Los Mets c/w the rest of the league.

First of all, it's ridiculous to compare the ethnic background/nationality of players today to players in 1901.

That being said, it's certainly possible that Minaya has more of a preference for Latino players than the average GM. But it's not like it's influenced every move he's made. Minaya traded a Latino prospect for LoDuca when Ramon Hernandez and Benji Molina were available in free agency, and he traded for Brian Schneider when he had Johnny Estrada already under his control. Plus, Pedro Martinez and Carlos Beltran were the best pitcher and hitter available, and the alternatives to Moises Alou were Carlos Lee and Alfonso Soriano.

And besides, it's only an issue if Minaya is clearly hurting the team by bringing in Latino players. Now, some moves (Bannister for Burgos, Owens and Lindstrom for Vargas, Keppinger for Gotay) look bad in hindsight, and to be fair some people on this site did criticize them at the time, but they were hardly met with universal disapproval and could all be to some degree defended at the time they happened.

It's old ground and still redundant IMO.

Well the point is to use actual facts to counter the arguments that Omar Minaya has made the team inordinately Latino. I found it interesting to see the actual statistics compared to what the dumb people say.

even in retrospect i can only call the bannister trade a bad one. the other two were trading away guys who were out of options with no room on the roster.

It's meaningless unless you are alleging Minyana picks Latinos over non-Latinos. He's traded for them, and traded them away, passed over them for non-Latinos and picked them up. An analysis of the roster is crude and meaningless.

Are you making a point or making a point of making a point?

I dunno what I'm doing. I just feel that everyone is piling on and accusing me of doing that exact opposite of what I intended.
