I got my new machine in mid-November and just now got around to installling it. It's got Windows Vista pre-installed. That's nice, I guess, but it quickly turns out that my wireless network adapter (Linksys USB11 ver 2.6) isn't compatible. I run over to Cha's machine and internet up, thinking Linksys must put out a driver to adapt, but I can't find one.

Is this going to happen with my other old peripheral stuff --- my speakers, my printer and such?

Yeah, I know.  Just dropped $45 on the cheapest adapter at Radio Shack.

I have a parody to write. I don't need this.

I went through the compatibility issues when I upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows XP on my last computer. It took weeks and some money to get the system fully operational. Actually, I never did get the scanner to work again even after several driver upgrades and patches. I finally gave up and just gave the scanner to a friend that was still running Windows 98.

In early December, I bought a new Dell computer for the house. I ended up buying a computer from the small business section of the Dell site, because it gave me the option of having it preloaded with Windows XP, rather than Vista. That way all of my software and peripherals were easily transferred over to the new machine without any compatibility issues.

Best of luck getting everything up and running with minimal time and expense.
