You might be interested in Michael Whelan's art show.

He is a friend of a friend, and wifey and I have attended many holiday dinners with Mike and his wife.

He designed the cover for Meatloaf's Bat Out of Hell album.

Interesting. I've been a fan of Whelan for a long time; we would love to get him up to Albacon next year (there's a good chance, since our guest of honor is Anne McCaffrey).

He's highly regarded in the SF community; I remember how Joan Vinge was thrilled that Whalen illustrated one of her books.

i'm pretty sure we had Whelan at I-Con at some point. He's terrific.

And i KNOW we had Joan Vinge... her husband is Tor editor Jim Frankel, a Stony Brook alumnus and founder of the SF Forum.

I-Con even had me as a panelist (the year Harlan Ellison was GOH).

IIRC, Jim Frenkel was involved in founding I-Con.

no, he wasn't.

I co-produced the first 2 cons, and he was just a guest, with his wife. He had nothing to do with the planning or managment of the event.

He was the founder of the SF forum on campus, and i think they had an aborted attempt at a con some years earlier (MudCon, i think it was). but he had nothing to do with I-Con.
