Howie Rose Has The Score

The screen lies silently blank
In the dead of the night
Although the Mets are playing baseball
I can't connect to SNY
Was it something I said or something I did?
Did I type the URL out right?
Though I tried tuning the TV
Man, I tried
But I guess that's fine because

Howie Rose has the score
Just like David Wright's throws will soar
Just like Moises Alou saw the first World War
Howie Rose has the score
Yeah, he does

I listen to our favorite team
Playing on the radio
Hearing Howie say the ball is driven deep and
That it's "Gone!!”
But I wonder does he know
That it has to be like this
And I know that Cohen'd be here right now
If it wasn't for that damn blackout
I guess

Howie Rose has the score
Just like Lo Duca's 0-for-4
Just like 'Los Delgado has been feeling bored
Howie Rose has the score

Though we're through the sixth now
And the Mets still lead the game
How I long to see Keith and Ronnie
But the voice, that voice remains

I know we could have won it in the ninth
But Wagner blew the save
Instead of slappin' gloves
They all played an extra frame
But then a homer won it in the tenth
Wish I could have seen it clear the fence
The highlight's prob'ly worth a look
Howie said to "put it in the books!"
I guess

Howie Rose has the score
Just like El Duque's calf is sore
Just like Jose Valentin has a 'stache for porn
Howie Rose has the score

Gary Cohen out talking with Hernandez on TV
From FAN’s window I’m staring while my coffee grows cold
Look over there! (Where?)
There’s my old partner with a microphone
Does play-by-play with jocks or something so I am told

Is he really going out with them?
Will he really drink a beer with them tonight?
Is he really going out with them?
‘Cause if I’m left with McCarthy
I’m gonna lose my mind around here.

Tonight’s the night when fans are all turning on their TV
Pedro is pitching and the Mets are really in a groove
Look over there! (Where?)
There is Darling sitting in S-N-Y booth
They say that looks sure count for all things
Well there’s your proof.

Is he really going out with them?
Will he really leave old Howie here tonight?
Is he really going out with them?
‘Cause if I’m left with McCarthy
I’m gonna lose my mind around here.
Around here.

But remember when
He and I were the hot radio team
We’d do our bits
And then go take a nice hot steam
It was a dream in Flushing, Queens.
Hey hey hey

Is he really going out with them?
Is it gonna be hotel reruns tonight?
Is he really going out with them?
‘Cause if I’m left with McCarthy
I’m gonna lose my mind around here.
Around here
Around here
Gonna lose my mind around here
Gonna lose my mind…

Another outstanding round!

I'm giving my personal edge to TM, though, because his parody is more on topic than sharpie's, IMO. Plus TM's final stanza is brilliant -

Howie Rose has the score
Just like El Duque's calf is sore
Just like Jose Valentin has a 'stache for porn
Howie Rose has the score

I "got" both on the first read -- a sign of greatness.

I have to think about this one.

TM's might be my favorite parody that I've ever seen in this contest.

These were both truly awesome. "'Cause if I'm left with McCarthy, I'm gonna lose my mind around here," however, clinched it for Sharpie for me.

Monk has him on the ropes in the early rounds. That line about Alou was just a devastating haymaker.

Half an hour left with appallingly low turnout.

Prolly can't make up the 4-vote difference in that time. That way I won't be thinking about the 1983 Mets while in Rome.

Congrats, Monk.

Ciao.
