Olmedo Signs

Mets ink veteren (37) PH/DH/1B/3B Olmedo Saenz to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

The RH hitter is coming off a bad year with the Dodgers but has shown good power in the past with decent walk rates.

You're slumping. You were supposed to write

"Mets Put Faith in Saenz" or "Mets Blinded by Saenz" or something.

I pronounce it Seanz as in Seanz, Seanz, Everywhere a Seanz.

Another missed opportunity by Billy Headline, who, I think, one used that exact pun in a thread titled "Top This."

But I guess that gives him the pun he needs in this headline.

I've used that: Saenz, Everywhere there's Saenz, gag about 15 times already.
Went with the homophonic switcheroo heading instead.

So this is the guy, huh?

Show us what you got, Olmedo.

I thought he was strictly a PH but he started eight games at first for the Dodgers last season, he has a good shot at making the opening day squad?

I doubt it. He's not gonna displace Easley or Anderson. I guess he could grab that 25th man spot that's between Gotay, Pagan and whomever.

I'd say he has a good shot vs. The Goat, who's destined to be traded for magic beans. Does he have options? The guy Seanz should worry about is Valentin but I don't think he's going to be healthy to start the year. So unless Seanz really sucks, and that's possible since he resembles a greying walrus at this point, he's OK I believe.

I also think it looks good for Pagan what with Endy injured.

The Goat has no options. I say he either gets traded during spring or, like Gary Marshall Jr., shortly after camp breaks and they realize they've taken him north with no role.

Valentin has pretty well admitted he won't be ready.

Gary Marshall?

You have Odd Couple on the brain today, huh?

Guess so.

Make that Matthews. Thanks.

Amazing how the brain works sometimes. I read AG/DC's post with Gary Marshall, Jr. as Gary Matthews, Jr and never noticed anything amiss until Ben Grimm ponted it out. I think the Jr. suffix sealed me to the fate of my poor reading skills. I feel pretty confident that had it been Gary Marshall, I would have thought who the hell is that?

I think Olmedo Saenz ends up with New Orleans a la Fernando Tatis.

Yeah I'm sure Orlando is not on the eleven egg whites every morning for breakfast diet that Franco is(or used to be).

Despite limited at bats he has made it to the league leaderboard in being hit by pitch.
