Hockey style catcher's masks are dorky.
DocTee Feb 13 2008 05:12 PM |
At least it's not black.

We have a foot of snow here in Grand Rapids, and it has been around 0 degrees for a chunk of the last week.

Mets guy feeling just a little sentimental today?.....way too much blue in that picture....really I dont like that helmet and hope it's only for practice.
Frayed Knot Feb 14 2008 08:18 AM |
If you were a catcher what would you use, the old-style catcher's mask or the newer hockey-style helmet?
TransMonk Feb 14 2008 08:27 AM |
I'm guessing that is his ST helmet to match the BP/ST blue jerseys. Once the season starts he'll probably have 2 or 3 to match each ensemble. Yes, even a black one. I would go old style mask with my ballcap turned backwards.
AG/DC Feb 14 2008 08:52 AM |
Old style, yeah!
John Cougar Lunchbucket Feb 14 2008 08:52 AM |
I'd be like Jason Phillips and wear an old-style mask, but over a forward-facing batting helmet.

DocTee Feb 14 2008 09:18 AM |
He should customize his mask with an orange dot and red apple to really irk the CPF old-liners.

Of course I checked and didn't see it........

I doubt the black is going away any time soon looks like Willie has gained a few pounds.

I swear I thought that was Art Howe on the far right. I don't know who it is, but he gave me the heebie-jeebies.
Has the Y always been on top of the N? That looks wrong to me.
AG/DC Feb 19 2008 11:32 AM |
The double (and occasionally triple) insigniae, with one on top of the other, is wrong. It's one more byproduct of the black.
Benjamin Grimm Feb 19 2008 11:44 AM |
I agree. The N and the Y should be cojoined. If there's an outline, it should outline both letters as if they were one; the letters shouldn't be outlined individually.

I think that's the esteemed (esteemed by Farmer Ted and myself, at any rate) Guy Conti. I'm guessing that's Schneider on the left and obviously Rick Peterson and his mullet second from the right having his fist metaphor ignored by Santana. What I kind of like during the P&C period, as position players come straggling in, is the lack of dictatorial sartorial control in the workout gear. We're looking at three different hats and four different tops there.

Others, too (including myself). Was watching the SportsCentury: Pedro Martinez this weekend. Did you know that Guy Conti was the pitching coach for the Great Falls (MT) Dodger Rookie League Team that Pedro pitched for? Conti and his wife were good friends to Pedro and helped him learn English by teaching him one new word a day. Pedro referred to Conti as "my white Daddy."

Excellent.
seawolf17 Feb 19 2008 02:30 PM |
Not only is Peterson being ignored, but Conti thinks it's hilarious.
Farmer Ted Feb 19 2008 07:46 PM |
Guy Conti is my hero.

As they say he's built like a brick shithouse.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Feb 20 2008 10:25 AM |
Dreamy, mischeivious look! He's like that midget on American Idol who sung Smokey Robinson!
seawolf17 Feb 20 2008 10:27 AM |
Can we start calling him "Brick Shithouse"? That'd be outstanding.
AG/DC Feb 20 2008 10:32 AM |
Even his nips are hard.

I'm watching Daily News Live(not live at 11PM) and they are actually talking over what it means that Santana gave up some hits today in his first live batting practice.
Triple Dee Feb 22 2008 10:32 PM |
So what did they come up with? From the video I saw, Santana and Schneider were basically calling out his pitches. How much meaning are they going to get out of that?
metsmarathon Feb 23 2008 08:30 AM |
i'd be much more concerned if our batters weren't able to get any hits off of any pitcher's first batting practice session.
metirish Feb 28 2008 07:55 PM |
Santana hits a home run during batting practice for pitchers, he and his team mates react.

Howie Clark, wearing #93.

I believe that's Brady Clark.

Ron Darling says that, if he's healthy, Santana will threaten to get 300 strikeouts this year.
TransMonk Feb 29 2008 11:23 AM |
Santana's debut less than desired.
Benjamin Grimm Feb 29 2008 11:27 AM |
Mets open the bottom of the first with back-to-back singles. Reyes beats out an infield hit, then Clark singles up the middle sending Reyes to third.
metirish Feb 29 2008 01:23 PM |
In his regular-season career against Santana, Gonzalez has six hits in seven at-bats, including two homers and two doubles.
