I need to get on the phone with the Mets and set a date for when I'm throwing out the first pitch. That would be a great game to meet up with you guys for.
|
Kong76 Feb 15 2008 12:42 PM |
If you get a choice, pick a Saturday night!
|
themetfairy Feb 15 2008 12:42 PM |
A Sunday game would be better for us. We have a Sunday plan this year, and it would be hard to go on a Saturday night and then back on a Sunday.
|
Kong76 Feb 15 2008 12:44 PM |
Shot down in 8 minutes, a new record!
|
themetfairy Feb 15 2008 12:46 PM |
Not shooting down. Redirecting.

Did Yogi ever call your dad?

John Cougar Lunchbucket Feb 15 2008 01:17 PM |
The Box has not been in Action since that Jets game. We are thinking of busting it out again this summer at some point but prolly won't take it on the road. Smokey Joe will travel though.

|
Kong76 Feb 15 2008 01:40 PM |
Forgot about that option.
|
Valadius Feb 15 2008 01:42 PM |
You know what, I'll ask him. I'll get back to you on that.
|
Farmer Ted Feb 15 2008 01:51 PM |
I am a follower in this directive. Name it and I will come out of the Boonies. Need to sit in that big blue semi-horse shoe one more time myself, Toddler Ted included (her first and last time).
|
Gwreck Feb 15 2008 03:10 PM |
I think these are the two best options:
|
Willets Point Feb 15 2008 03:38 PM |
Saturdays are nice for us out-of-town folk so we can make a weekend of it and not get back ridiculously late on a Sunday night.
|
Kong76 Feb 15 2008 04:01 PM |
I like Gwrecks take.
|
Rockin' Doc Feb 15 2008 04:24 PM |
I agree with Willets that a Saturday game is generally best for those of us that may (hopefully) be attending from out of town.
|
Kong76 Feb 23 2008 08:31 AM |
Anyone give any more thought to this?
|
themetfairy Feb 23 2008 08:34 AM |
We're definitely out for that weekend - that's D-Dad's college reunion (and he's on the reunion committee, so there's no way he's missing that).
|
Kong76 Feb 23 2008 08:42 AM |
The man's sense of priorities is seriously out of whack.
|
Farmer Ted Feb 23 2008 03:41 PM |
I can do the 31st.
|
Rockin' Doc Feb 23 2008 06:20 PM |
I really want to get back to Shea before they tear her down. The May 31st game has great possibilities for our family.
|
seawolf17 Feb 23 2008 06:24 PM |
Count me in for three for the 31st.
|
Farmer Ted Feb 23 2008 06:55 PM |
Mets.com shows no tickets for sale for that game. WTF?
|
Kong76 Feb 23 2008 07:32 PM |
They're really pushing (milking) packages and plans, single games don't go
|
Gwreck Feb 23 2008 10:07 PM |
KC is right, 3/9 is the date.
|
Farmer Ted Feb 24 2008 10:31 AM |
Hmm, looks like tix are available for other game with a green T icon.
|
Gwreck Feb 24 2008 10:57 AM |
Because the Mets are selling upper reserved seats to "selected" games ahead of time. General sales for all games begins Sunday 3/9.
|
sharpie Feb 25 2008 08:35 AM |
The 5/31 game probably works for me.
|
Rockin' Doc Feb 27 2008 11:30 AM |
The May 31st game is slated for a cap giveaway (sponsored by Verizon) for the first 25,000 fans.
|
seawolf17 Feb 27 2008 01:22 PM |
I think the CPF should sponsor a giveaway. How expensive could that be? A couple dozen thousand bucks?
|
DocTee Feb 27 2008 02:47 PM |
Mebbe we can get Johnny to let us have 25K free copies of his book for distribution?
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Feb 27 2008 03:00 PM |
That would clst me 12.5K I don't have, no thanks.

I just assumed the 50 cents per book was what JD made after everyone else got their share.

themetfairy Feb 27 2008 06:37 PM |
How about Sunday, Sept. 14th, against the Braves? I can't plan on the 7th (it's my daughter's birthday), and the 30th is going to be a hard ticket to get, but the 14th should be reasonably available.
|
Kong76 Feb 28 2008 02:59 PM |
I'm ok with that unless it's the Jets home opener date.

Uh G, now I don't know how far from Times Square you live, but that is the same date as the Cranepool League draft.

draft is 5:45 that day. i suppose you could find an internet cafe or something along those lines if you didnt live in manhattan AND were intent on doing both.

SteveJRogers Feb 28 2008 04:26 PM |

Do internet cafes still exist? That being said, I'm sure there are scores of WiFi hot spots at various coffee shops and bookstores.

I'm sure they would - I wouldn't. I'll bring my oldest with me to the game in May.
|
Gwreck Feb 28 2008 08:21 PM |
I actually do live close enough to make it home, although given that I'm not in the CPF Fantasy League, I had no idea a draft was even taking place.
|
Kong76 Mar 03 2008 04:21 PM |
So is it Sat 3/8 or Sun 3/16?
|
themetfairy Mar 03 2008 04:25 PM |
I can't do the 8th, but I'm open on the 16th.
|
Vic Sage Mar 03 2008 04:46 PM |
i'm good either day. The draft on 3/16 isn't till 5:45pm and i could make it home by then.
|
Nymr83 Mar 03 2008 05:53 PM |
do you guys want me to check and see if the draft can be made a few hours later? this wasn't an option when i signed up but "better" draft timeshave opened up in past years after initial registration. bring it up in the fantasy baseball forum if this is a concern, i dont want to hijack this thread.
|
Kong76 Mar 05 2008 01:36 PM |
Seems there are a bunch who can make it both days. Maybe we should vote
|
themetfairy Mar 05 2008 01:46 PM |
I can make the 16th, so that's my vote.
|
AG/DC Mar 05 2008 01:50 PM |
I vote for the dirty thirty-first.
|
sharpie Mar 05 2008 01:58 PM |
16th is better than the 8th for me but not sure about either.

Gwreck Mar 05 2008 02:16 PM |
Groupsit logistics are tough. And require a financial commitment from somebody, and then getting paid back. Figured it was too difficult to arrange that.

Without some groupsit not sure I would make it to the 31st. Unless Lenny makes it to the game with me and that's no lead-pipe cinch (16-year-olds often have other priorities than spending a day with dad) then I'd be on my own and while that isn't not-fun, it isn't as-fun.

If we aren't able to buy a block of tickets for everyone, which I know is a big headache for the person coordinating the tickets, can we at least designate a particular section for everyone to purchase their tickets in? I'm 90% sure that I'll be coming up for the game. Unfortunately, it is the weekend before final exames for my daughter, so my wife and daughter are out. My son may be able to accompany me, but we're really not really sure about his schedule at this point.

The most bizarre episode of the afternoon was our fight to get the Mets game on TV. Keep in mind that this is the ESPN Zone in the middle of Times Freakin' Square, with something like 40 televisions. The Philadelphia Flyers/Pittsburgh Penguins game is on several sets, there are basketball games galore, the MFYs are on, but no Mets. So we ask them to put it on, only to be told that it couldn't be done. We ask to see a manager, who also tries to explain to us that the televisions have been pre-programmed and could not be changed.

I think I might be able to attend. Have the tickets been purchased yet?

Thanks for bumping, Gwreck.

can't make it, that spot you marked with a X used to be fine but wit the citifiel construction the Mets have turned everything they can into parking so not sure whats up there now. for example, they now charge you to park under some of the freeways where once you could park on your own for free.
|
seawolf17 May 19 2008 05:26 PM |
If there's someone that says that spot is good, then I say it's fine by me.

If anyone is still looking for a ticket and doesn't mind sitting with a complete stranger who SWEARS he's not an axe murderer, I'll front you.
|
Kong76 May 19 2008 05:49 PM |
If not, just get an upper reserve ticket and squat by us.
|
seawolf17 May 19 2008 06:03 PM |
It's always the axe murderers who swear they're not axe murderers.

Wow. This year, because they were afraid of the lack of partial plans announced for Citi Field, my Dad's company (well, its just him and his partner in the firm) bought the entire season, just for the CHANCE to get in the park in 2009. Well anyway, pre-paid parking came along with the seats, so we (my Dad and myself) haven't driven to our usual spot underneath Northern Blvd. Heh, I guess its a good thing then! The only other place we generally parked is right around College Point Avenue. Which probably is safe from the Shea parking patrol!

Well, I got my Irish Stout aging in my basement. I tried a bottle of it a couple of weeks ago and it was pretty tasty. I will bring extra because I think that, with this team, we are going to need as much alcohol as possible.

Farmer Ted May 23 2008 10:03 AM |
Unfortunately the New York Water Taxi isn't running a Mets Express this year or it would only be a 1 minute walk to the tailgate from the dock.

I don't want to camp counselor too much, but a couple of things ...

Okay, I'm starting to get pumped for this trip.
|
holychicken May 28 2008 08:45 AM |
Don't quote me on this, but I think you can get there from that round-a-bout (which is no longer a round-a-bout) which is accessible from Northern.
|
Willets Point May 28 2008 01:18 PM |
I keep thinking that I'd be able to whisk myself to New York at the last minute but I've come to realize that the combination of my parental responsibilities and that I'm still recovering from a back injury will mean that I won't be able to attend this shindig.

Ok, since I haven't heard any volunteers for food yet, I will be bringing:

I'll be in the Shea lot beyond the CitField left field wall with my family. I suggested going to the CPF gathering, but Mrs. Solo gave me the look, you know, the "you're not dragging us across that highway to meet up with a bunch of people you don't even know" look.

I'd pm-ed my contribution to KC. Just bought eight Tofurky Italian sausages and matching whole wheat buns at my local Trader Joe's (yeah, I fit pretty easily into a demographic).

I'm contemplating bringing Carolina pork barbeque and buns for sandwiches. I think I can run a small crock pot from the auxillary power plug on the Mustang. Of course, we'll have a large cooler of assorted beers and some water.

I don't know if I've ever been to the specified tailgate area, and I don't (yet) know any of your faces... will there be something up to identify the group?

I haven't parked over there in awhile, we're winging it. I hope the X really

Farmer Ted May 29 2008 06:29 AM |
I can prolly commit to a pack of twizzlers right now. Not sure how the day is going to play out and will likely lean toward taking the train. If so, with a 2 year old in tow, a covered dish or a cold dessert is a pipe dream.
|
seawolf17 May 29 2008 06:34 AM |
With a two-year-old of our own, we'll likely bring some Goldfish and a stack of diapers.
|
sharpie May 30 2008 06:54 AM |
I'll prolly take the subway so I'd rather not make something which would involve containers and such. So I'll bring chips and some soda for the non-drinkers (I'm not one of those, but Lenny will be with me).

Gwreck May 30 2008 08:44 AM |
I'm disappointed by the forecast as well, and while I suspect we may be able to get the tailgate in, I would advocate that it's going to be more effective to move it inside simply to ensure that the gathering actually happens.

holychicken May 30 2008 10:22 AM |
I am down with the bar, the only problem is that it means no chicken stout. Which means more for me, which is fine by me. :)
|
sharpie May 30 2008 10:37 AM |
I think we should wait til tomorrow morning to make the call on whether to go to the bar. The tailgate thingee sounds like more fun as once you're at a table it becomes difficult to talk to people who aren't in your necka the woods unlike the mingling possibilities of the great outdoors. I'll be there either way.
|
seawolf17 May 30 2008 11:20 AM |
I agree with making the call tomorrow. We're figuring on leaving home around 1:00ish, getting to the park around 2:00-2:30ish.
|
Kong76 May 30 2008 12:48 PM |
I guess there's no harm in waiting until morning. Traffic
|
Rockin' Doc May 30 2008 04:10 PM |
Damn, this weather forecast sucks. My buddy and I left home around 9:45 AM this morning. Checked into our hotel in northern NJ around 5:15 PM. If the tailgate is called off, or moved to the bar, we will definitely need directions of where to go. Only read of the gatherings at the former Bobby V's, have no ide where it was.
|
Kong76 May 30 2008 06:23 PM |
Don't worry about finding the restaurant, RD. If we end up changing it to there

|
Rockin' Doc May 31 2008 07:43 AM |
Figuring out the trains from New Brunswick sound too difficult for us two southern hicks. We'll likely drive over and park at Shea, then walk over. Probably easier for us to figure out in all honesty. I had to tell the woman at the hotel front desk which stop was Shea's and she still seemed rather seemed confused.
|
sharpie May 31 2008 07:55 AM |
If that's the same hotel you pick up Stub Hub tickets at, I remember parking near there and walking to Shea was a pretty good option and a lot cheaper than paying the ridiculous Shea parking fee. I might do that.
|
holychicken May 31 2008 08:39 AM |
So by "tail-gate central" we mean we aren't tailgating any more and just going to the bar? Just trying to decide whether or not I should drive or take the train in.

I wish I had seen this earlier. It's easy. NJ Transit to Penn Station, then transfer to the LIRR to Shea. I do that all the time for Sunday games.
|
Rockin' Doc Jun 01 2008 05:10 PM |
Drove to Shea with no real difficulty. Met up with KC and his wife KB, then headed over to the Holiday Inn bar for some beer and socializing. It was great to see old acquaintances as well as to meet many others for the first time. We had a great time and got to see a good game with a Mets win.
