I wonder aloud if having an irritating song or a song by an irritating artist in your head can affect your day because I had one humdinger of an ag- gravating one.

I'd find my head to be an unpleasant place with that in it.
It has a lot in common with "Curley Shuffle," however, and sometimes, when forced to sit through the Mayer song, I superimpose Jump 'n' the Saddle's lyrics, if only mentally.

This morning my wife wanted to snooze a bit so she told me "wake me up in 9 minutes with loud 90's music." At the appointed time I sang the following song in her ear:

The Perfect Me, by Deerhoof.
This song has: -A crazy, bouncing opening that I like to describe with made-up words like "awesomest" -A tiny, squeaky Japanese woman singing who manges to change gears into really creepy territory at the "cry out, cry out" parts. -A searing, terrific change in direction at about 1:26 in the video. (It sounds even better on the album version of the song.) -2 or 3 rapid shifts in sound that go from garage rock to indie to prog.
It's on the album Friend Opportunity. I can't stop listening.

That's me doing average to below-average work on vocals, guitar, harmonica, mandolin, snare drum, and um, washboard. My neighbors fuckin' love me, I bet.

You want to know the secret? Have good friends.
A few weeks ago, a friend of mine was shopping for a Nintendo DS for her daughter, and I asked her to keep an eye out for a Wii Fit for me (after having been unable to find one in said Princeton area for several months). Long story short - my friend has a friend who works at a local branch of a big chain store, and she got a heads up that a shipment was coming in this past Saturday. My friend picked up two Wii Fits - one for herself and one for me.
Tell your friend to keep looking - you can really get a nice, varied workout with the Wii Fit.
