American policy brings about regime change and it only took 50 years!

Our Cuba policy, like our Israel policy, is funny in that occasionally an opposition candidate will criticize it --- like Obama a little while back (he has taken some positions) --- but then the opposition party goes into power and our policy remains unchanged. I always imagined each new president sitting down at his desk the first week of his presidency and being handed the top secret Cuba and Israel dossiers, opening them up and saying, "Holy crap! Is this true!? Now I see what my predecessors were thinking."

I think Cuba could not have handled this matter any better, everyone has had a long time to absorb the fact that Castro has not been in power really since he took ill and this way there isn't any mass hysteria or anything like that, basically nothing changes except Raul will be official.

It's long bugged me that I'm not allowed to go to Cuba.

I think Americans should be allowed to visit any country that's willing to accept them.

If a law that prohibits us from visiting Cuba isn't unconstitutional, it ought to be.

Yeah I find that law strange, as an Irish citizen I can visit but not fly from here, at least I don't think you can fly from here.

Letterman keeps insisting that Fidel will be replaced by his brother Dennis.

Of course he also insists that Kim Jong Il will be replaced by his cousin Menta Li Il

I think his sister Bernadette should get a shot.

the crazy old bastard really knew what he was doing. quite often dictators die and the system falls into chaos, castro managed a clean pass while he was still alive.

i have no problem with a travel ban and trade embargo on cuba. fidel castro stole billions of dollars of american property shortly after coming to power for which compensation (required by international law when a country 'nationalizes' something) was never paid.

what i don't like is the inconsistent immigration policy with regards to cuba (if we pick them up at sea they have to go back but if they land in america they are free to stay.) we should be accepting anyone who manages to flee or not, the distinction between refugees picked up on land or in u.s, territorial waters seems arbitrary.
