Will they suck again? American Idol 2008

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Feb 20 2008 11:16 AM

I'd have said the Australian guy had it all wrapped up last week but as long as he shows the judgement to choose "Light My Fire" (and burn it to a crisp) it's anyone's game on the guy side.

Lots of Sanjaya Wannabees this season, seems like. I do hope they eject Gay Danny as soon as possible.

Little David did well. Wallet-chain fake-rocker will be fun to see exposed.

Chixx go tonight.

I thought the Aussie choosing "Light my fire" was a terrible decision, why do so many go for the Doors. I thought for certain he would go with an INXS song, he seems perfect for that.

Lot of controversy about the San Diego by way of Dublin chick going tonight, she had a record deal with MCA several years ago and a heavily promoted album that bombed , Randy Jackson was an exec at MCA at the time.

Is she a ringer as some claim, I thought she audioned quite well but nothing great, still I'm rooting for you Carly.

That fake rocker guy bugs me too. I hope they catch him listening to NSync during his free time. The Peter Frampton look-alike that looks like he died two weeks ago also bugs me. I'm also don't think that the Rasta John Travolta was any good either. Still the Australian's to lose I say.

I think the girls will be, like, a lot better.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Feb 20 2008 11:33 AM

That's funny, I got a Travolta vibe from White Rasta Boy too. You just know he's from an upper-middle-class suburban town.

You could knock off about seven of those guys last night right now and it wouldn't matter.

I'm just glad they dropped the crying kid who lives in his car.

So am I, he sucked, his story sucked and his arrogance sucked.

The first two tonight, Kristy Lee Cook and Joanne Borgella get the show of to a bad start.

Alaina Whitaker the third girl out blows the judges away, she was good enough that Cowell said he hated the song but she was so good she made the song decent.

I'm expecting huge things from Amanda Overmyer .

Farmer Ted
Feb 20 2008 07:26 PM

Mrs. Ted is a big follower of this show. She showed me some of the "Idol Blogs" that say that many of these wannabe finalists have already had contracts as soloists or with bands and fell flat. I saw this season dubbed as "The Semi-Pros." What, no more Kelly Clarksons or Carrie Underwoods out there they have to dig up rehashed talent?

I can't be more bored with this show this year. This is by far the most uninteresting group this show has had.

This show is about as appealing as a cock-flavored lollipop.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Feb 20 2008 09:06 PM

Mmmmm, co.... um.. wait.

Who knew the 60s were such a dull decade?

There are a few slices of cuteypie among the chixx. I kinda liked the one in the dress who was so humiliated by the criticism. I kinda found that sexy.

My favorite chick is Asia. I also like the rocker nurse with the skunk hair and the short asian chick. I'll be rooting for those three. Syesha is great, but I'm not sure I like her yet. Had high hopes for the Irish girl but she bit it bad last night.

I thought the Irish girls was one of the better ones along with sexy Nurse, Simon seems to have it out for the Irish though, wanker.

I was hoping to hear more about the chick from Oregon who sold her horse to fly to Philly for the audition...and her striptease website.

Controversy abounds!

She sucked. Hopefully she's voted off on her own (lack of) merits. This looks like the year that AI has completely jumped the shark.

Feb 21 2008 09:21 AM

You know, of the judges I really can't stand Randy.

Paula's on something and will never say a negative word. "You look really nice tonight" is Paula-code for "you sucked."

Simon, for all his supposed meanness, tells it like it is, for the most part.

Randy, though, is all over the place with his commentary. For instance, he tells one of the interchangeable blonds that her performance showed that it doesn't matter what song you choose or how you act on stage, as long as you come out and sing it, yo, that's what it is all about. Five minutes later though, after another interchangeable blond performed, he says, I don't know about it, not enough of your personality for me. However, I thought her vocal was pretty strong. Meanwhile, he almost always harps on song choice, song choice, song choice. So which is it, Randy?

Also, I can't stand Sykesha and her screeching. And I can do without the constant reminders that Asia'hs dad died, and Irish girl's visa didn't come through 2 years ago.

Rocker nurse to me sounds like a drunk chick at karaoke night.

Irish chick might become a campaign immigration issue if they don't shut up about it.

Centerfield
Feb 29 2008 08:22 AM

I thought for sure the rocking nurse was going home. The dude with the girl's voice was lucky to survive. I'm guessing he's the first to go next week.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Feb 29 2008 08:57 AM

I missed parts of both shows this week and the elimination. Who got tossed?

Rocker chick was unbelieveably awful this week -- but she completely owns the white rocker chick vote while the warbly black chick singer and blonde-nice-yabbos vote is divided up.

Speaking of yabbos that was some performance by Kristy Lee. I mean. Um... She's not going anywhere for a while.

Hernandez I think was better than Achela this week. The dork with the blonde streak went home I hope. Who esle?

metirish
Feb 29 2008 09:22 AM

The guys that went were Jason Yeager the dork with said blonde streak, absolutely killed " long train running"...the the first girl to go was Alaina Whitaker, then they booted Robbie Carrico and Alexandréa Lushington , not for nothing while Robbie is totally fake and was not great he's a lot better than at least 4 of the guys....Danny Noriega, Chikezie to name two....oh and Whitaker the 16 year old broke down after getting booted, and in a bad way , in her words it was embarrassing.

They're planning on trashing the Lennon/McCartney songbook again next week. Can't they send more than one home for crissakes? I think it'll come down to Carly Simon vs. CHA-KEEEEEEE-Z.

seawolf17
Mar 13 2008 09:41 AM

I can't decide if that Carly girl is gorgeous or not. I do like Chikezie a lot. You can get rid of everyone except Chikezie, Carly, the blonde girl who looks like she's 40, the Australian guy, the dreadlocks guy, and the Archuleta kid right now and just let those six battle it out.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Mar 13 2008 09:45 AM

I was really blown away by how bad they all were. I mean, how awful is it when Chiqueeze gives the best performance?

Dreadlocks Travolta woulda won if could only resist the urge to pretend he's Jeff Fucking Buckley up there. He picked a great song and destroyed it.

I can't tell you how much I hate the emo premature baldness guy. I hope he gets electrocuted.

Rock & Roll Nurse, she's got great pipes, but I hated that hacky performance. The tattoos ruin Irish chick's look for me. I guess she was alright, as was Australian guy IMO.

She's the best looking female left so she HAS to stay around somehow despite her "interpretation" of "Eight Days A Week." The swimsuit model has been cut and the best looking woman of the fans tribe on "Survivor" has been voted off--I hate that!

That was bad news. The songs are fantastic but if you're gonna be really proud to finally have the rights to Lennon and McCartney songs, then perhaps they should be sung the way Lennon and McCartney intended. Instead, we had the Earth, Wind & Fire version of one song, the Stevie Wonder version of another, and whateverthehell Cook did to "Eight Days A Week." Show some respect for the brilliance of the material.

Farmer Ted
Mar 13 2008 01:28 PM

My question is who owns the Lennon/McCartney songbook? Michael Jackson? That may answer WHY it's being featured on Idol. How about Jim Carrey whoring his new movie on Idol?

seawolf17
Mar 13 2008 01:43 PM

You think whoever does own the rights watched the other night and said "sunuvabitch, I knew we should have held out another season."

Actually, I'm sure every teenybopper with an mp3 player is downloading the hell out of David Archuleta's crap-ass forget-the-words version ("I had never even heard of Lennon and McCartney"), so they're making their money.

metirish
Mar 20 2008 07:13 AM

I know it's not the best group this season but I was shocked that "Rocker Nurse" got the boot last night , "Irish Chick" got a rude awakening being in the bottom three and I think she will be better for it. The other bottom feeder should have got the boot.

I'm sick of the Michael Hutchence wannabe , he thinks he's so fucking cool, and two hours is too long and stop the silly live phone in , how about the 49 year old calling in , jeez.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Mar 20 2008 07:35 AM

We're still at the point in the competition where the Unable-To-Wins-No-Matter-What are still being picked off, the order in which they go don't matter but for Amanda's lucky avoidance of what should be a really gay tour of state fairs this summer.

She was a one-trick pony.

I find myself disagreeing with the judges quite a bit. I think Emo Hair and Archuleta pretty much suck bhmc but they look like the judges favorites. I don't think Aussie is as bad as they say, and Chikeze (rhymes with Cheesy) is actually becoming somewhat entertaining. We also think Syesha is good.

Christy Lee Cook is going to have to get sluttier. Them yabbos are like the immunity idol on Survivor -- she has to play them next week.

I think Castro is destined to win it all.

So, for someone who is dropping in on 'Idol' for the first time this go-round having never before seen a minute of it, is it going to go on like this for the next 10 weeks; taking two shows and three hours to eliminate just one person each time?

They gotta start knifing people in larger numbers pretty soon or I'm never going to make it through to the end.

The biggest dorks on the show may just be the audience.
Why the girls are screaming for a guy (Archuleta) that they all individually could probably beat up is beyond me.

Yes, and I agree.

Amanda was terrible and needed to go, and JCL is spot on with Kristy Lee Cook. Damn, she looked great the other night, though. Take Chikezie out of my final six and put her back in. Kristy, Carly, Australian guy, dreadlocks guy, Archuleta, and the blonde girl who looks like she's 40.

Ramiele is terrible, Syesha is boring. Emo guy is okay -- liked the talkbox, but he can go.

How 'bout Kellie Pickler, eh? Damn.

Mar 20 2008 10:36 AM

Chikezie got the boot last night and rightly so, his song choices are brutal, I find Carly Simon to be s real flake, last night in the time wasting segment to promote iTunes she was talking about how amazing and daunting it can be to be in a recording studio, all those buttons and gadgets that go into recording their songs, STFU , you had a major label album out a few years ago so don't act like you've never been in a studio before. I've had a feeling for ages that the others on the show hate her.

I have never been a fan of opera, but I have always appreciated the talent it takes to sing it well. Even to my untrained ear, I could tell how immensely talented Paul Potts was (is).

My problem - and I think I mentioned earlier that this is my first season paying attemtion to AI - is that I just don't care who survives this thing.

And, unfortunately, between the screaming teens and the over-the-top (IMO) praise from the judges I don't think we're getting rid of Archuletta anytime soon.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
May 07 2008 09:48 AM

Castro looked higher than Paula Abdul last night, that's saying something. I still think there's a chance he advances even though he doesn't want to as Syesha goes home.

I had a vision last night that the Idol producers wanted the final 3 to mirror the 3 final presidential candidates with Syesha embodying Obama; gritty Oklahoman Cook for Hilary's white working class; and Archuleta representing the conservative/senior voting block for McCain.

metirish
May 07 2008 09:55 AM

I watch now knowing that they are all rubbish ,and that helps , Castro was rubbish and should be binned tonight , I though Syesha did a decent job on a tough Sam Cooke song.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
May 22 2008 07:22 AM

You just know Archie's creepy Mormon dad gave him the beating of his young life last night.

Cook didn't deserve to win based on his final 2 showdown, or his originality, but I will grant he's capable of exhibiting a little soul in his grunge counterfeit. Archie had the more original voice but was calculatedly cute and artificially sweetened, and didn't change or grow one bit from beginning to end.

Centerfield
May 22 2008 10:20 AM

My wife said the same thing about Archie's dad. I'm glad David Cook won. He's probably the best they've had on the show since Kelly Clarkson.

Couple of random things...

George Michael can't sing anymore. Bryan Adams still can but he looks like he's 102 years old. The Gladys Knight bit was funny but I think they did themselves a disservice by showing her singing in her prime. Kind of showed up their contestants. In my next life, if I can't be a Met, I think I'd be more than happy to be a Pip.

Amanda Overmeyer looks like she wants to hang herself during the group numbers.

I'm glad this was on to distract me from the sucky Mets.

themetfairy
May 23 2008 02:20 PM

In typical Comcastic fashion, our cable tv and Internet crashed on Wednesday night. I didn't take much note of the time, other than the fact that the Mets were still flailing away in Atlanta when we lost all contact with the outside world (well, I could have found a radio, but that would have required getting up....). Anyway, it was a couple of minutes before 10:00.

Why am I posting this here? Because yesterday, I heard a better description of the timing.
