Castillo not making good on his threat to start today. Keith and Gary are bringing it to you from St. Lucie. Fernando Martinez is in center as Beltran continues to DH. Oliver Perez going for New York.

Two-strike, two-out double by Jay HGHibbons. Scores on an Aubrey Huff single to center. Martinez's throw was a rope but it was offline and Cancel couldn't handle the hop anyhow. I get the impression that Perez is going to be maddening throughout his career. His delivery is so off-balance that it makes it un-repeatable. And he can't really correct it because he appears to use his falling off-balance to generate either his velocity or or the leverage for his movement.

Yeah. I'm not entirely convinced that, if Perez leaves the Mets next winter, that we'll be all too upset about it.

I'm also not convinced that if he goes 16-8, 3.15 that we should blow the bank on a four-year $66 million dollar deal.

Angel. Happy to be back in the organization. A lot of guys are taking the injuries as an opportunity, so he's taking nothing for granted. Minaya never told him that he had a good chance to make the club. (Church makes a diving backhand catch at this point.) Pinella is a great manager and enjoyed how he played because he plays hard. He wants to keep working on his hitting, particularly from the left side. (Ed: His career stas interestingly enough suggest, though he may be more comfortable from the right side, he's more successful from the left.)

Do keep in mind that this kid won't turn 20 until after the coming season is over and that he has only 350 ABs above the Low-A at this point. If he's even a semi-regular by mid-'09 we'll be WAY ahead of the game.
