Being his third start of the spring, I'd say were deep enough into camp that it's OK to be encouraged.

Other highlights: Reyes hitting his first homer, Wright his first triple, flaming hot Pagan going 1-3 with a double, a walk, and a run scored, and the bullpen (Wagner, Heilman [2 innings], Rincon, and Muniz) completing the shutout with five innings of 3-hit, 1-walk ball.

Valentin made his first appearance, going 0-2 while playing first. He was replaced by Easley, which may be a preview of the platoon we're going to open the season with.

Oh, and a good exchange between Ryan Church and Marlon Anderson in this morning's Times:

“Heard you played yesterday, Churchie,” Anderson said. “How’d you do?”

Smiling, Church said: “Two for two. Two line-drive singles.”

“I locked you in,” Anderson said.

Church shook his head. “No, never again,” he said.
