Thinking Out Loud About Mets Books

Now that one of the best Mets books ever is out, I've been thinking about what hasn't been written and what I can add. The book that needs to be written, that I can't write is The Last Year at Shea, with the author attending each of the 81+ home games this year, interviewing staff and such.

I had this idea a few years back to rip off the guy who wrote Wrigley Field: The Unauthorized Biography. Not a story of the last year of Shea, but of the death of the whole idea behind Shea -- the multipurpose stadium that was about modern convenience and utility and the masses, beaten dead by the idea of exclusivity, faux retro charm and luxury.

That was exactly going to be my subplot.

I think you could write a book called "Stalking Obscure Mets" where you randomly show up at Josias Manzanillo's family reunion and hide in the back of John Pacella's car. The book will write itself!
