He's had more than his fair share of injuries but this is different. Hopefully they can figure out what's going on.

Well, this hits close to home. I've been dealing with the same sort of nagging joint and muscle injuries, extreme tiredness, slow healing, and that sort of general bleh that the article describes for 5 years now. It is difficult to diagnose, and I've heard everything from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome to Epstien Barr to Lyme to "quit complaining". I empathize with Baldelli. He's a really talented player, it's shit luck that he's got to deal with this sort of nagging, ambiguous sort of illness.

A problem with the mitochondria (if that's what Baldelli does have) is the same thing that finally knocked biker Greg LeMond out of competition. Seeing as how the mitochondria is the unit within each cell that generates energy at the body's most basic level, a problem there might be something you can live with but, for obvious reasons, it's not condusive to an athletic career.
