Gov. Charlie Crist of Florida would be a no-brainer except for all of the rumors flying around that he's gay. It would likely lead to a lot of front-page stories about how he used to frequent gay bars and could possibly lead to an effort by social conservatives to replace him on the ticket.

A McCain/Rice vs. Obama/Clinton race would make for an interesting summer.

Who is she again?

My hunch is that Obama will end up picking that Democratic female governor from Kansas. So maybe we'll have two women VP candidates, ensuring some kind of history will be made. (My pick for Ralph Nader's running mate: Carol Channing.)

Nader has already picked a (male) running mate.

Musgrave is a congresswoman from Colorado who barely holds on in her district every election.

How about himself! That way we'd have both the John McCain that, before he ran for President, did not cater to the religious right, was not against abortion rights, and was perceived as a "moderate Republican"... while we'd also have the current version which is against abortion rights, playcates all aspects of the religious right, says that we could be in Iraq for a thousand years, and ran in the primary as a "conservative Republican."

sorry, you're gonna have to take that crap elsewhere.

]The National Right to Life Committee gives McCain a lifetime 72 percent rating from 1997 through 2007, while NARAL Pro-Choice America gives him a lifetime 1 percent rating from 1987 through 2007.

]On June 26, 1984, McCain voted for H.AMDT.942, the Siljander amendment, to H.R.5490, "An amendment to define "person" as including unborn children from the moment of conception".

"sorry, you're gonna have to take that crap elsewhere."

You have to admit that he's "modified" his views of late.

I apologize if my comment(ary) was "over the top" for this venue. It seemed appropriate given the Larry Craig jokes earlier but maybe it should have been saved for The Huffington Post.

sorry, i was unclear, i was reffering specifically to your claim about abortion. he has certainly been more outspoken on other conservative issues lately, and i havent heard a peep out of him on his more liberal issues (campaign finance reform, immigration) at least since he became the front runner.
but mccain, as you can see from his ratings by the pro-life and pro-choice interest groups, has been firmly pro-life for his entire senate career.
your comment was not "over the top" (inappropriate), it was just factually incorrect.

I interviewed Pawlenty last year when he was filling in for McCain at the Michigan GOP convention. Seemed like a nice guy. He's young. He was worn from answering all the basic political questions that I changed gears and just shot the breeze for a while.

He fits the bill in many ways -- except that I think McCain will go for a conservative Sotherner to add some balance.

Yeah, except that he had her as a soccer mom. She's a hockey mom!

But other than that, quite impressive.

4 Schaefer points to Farmer Ted.
