CPRM?

I wanted to record the John Adams thing tonight on HBO because I want to
go bed early and I get a message that my DVD recorder (that I admittedly
don't record much on) that it can't record on a disk that isn't CPRM com-
patible or something?

Took me twenty minutes to find the manual and find an explanation that some
stuff is encoded for "record once" or something and that you need to use
discs that work with CPRM? I've had the thing two years and never had any
problem just recording something.

CPRM? How long they been doing that? My cable box tells my DVD recorder
what it can and cannot do?

Content Protection for Recordable Media.

Basically, they don't want you recording a disc that can be copied and redistributed... I don't know much else about it.

I just never ran into it, it must be somewhat new because I used to record
Sopranos episodes on HBO which I'm sure they covet rights to as much as
John Adams.

For a goof just now I tried to record a minute of the Yankee game with the
same disc and it works. I guess I find it amazing that the it's broadcast spe-
cific and the machines comply - I'm easily amazed. Anyway, the wifey is
gonna stop at Radio Crack and get me some CPRM compliant discs so I can
record Adams tonight.

Do you have HBO On Demand? That works as well as TiVo, DVR, etc.

I got this thing about giving Cablevision even more money when I can just
record something and watch it at my leisure. I'd be embarrassed to post what
my cable bill is between the internet/phone/MLB package/movie channels.

We get On Demand for free along with our paid HBO subscription.

Are you telling me that Cablevision sux even more than Comcast does?

Nothing is free on Cablevision, and like I said it's almost embarrassing.

Q: What is CPRM?

A: What Samuel L. Jackson does when you have a heart attack: "Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, muthafucka!"
