New York Mets

am i alone in not getting the mlb2k8 ad with the guy wiping down the bat who uses it to whack jose reyes' jose-jose-jose-jose-jose-playing boombox, which brings jose into a laughing fit, abbreviated by the bat wiper's general sense of malice?
themetfairy Apr 02 2008 05:12 PM |
The whole ad campaign is pretty lame, except for the Denis Leary voiceover at the end.
Frayed Knot Apr 02 2008 05:37 PM |
Church giving a big FU to those who think he can't hit LHPs
themetfairy Apr 02 2008 05:40 PM |
Miller looks like he's on stilts.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 02 2008 05:45 PM |
Oh F it
metirish Apr 02 2008 05:54 PM |
One former Mets fan not happy with getting Church.
KC Apr 02 2008 05:56 PM |
The boom box ad is funny, and whacking something with a bat can't be lame.
Frayed Knot Apr 02 2008 05:57 PM |
Not a good no-out send there Sandy

I don't think you'll get any major fights over that. Although the Foxwoods Leprechaun ad was pretty creepy. Back to the game - Angel Pagan has had a hot start this year. Another RBI for him tonight makes it 4-0 Mets!
AG/DC Apr 02 2008 06:08 PM |
Perez has bat-repellent on the ball.
AG/DC Apr 02 2008 06:16 PM |

The leprechaun is/was way creepy. I think in-game ads are good fodder for in-game threads.
AG/DC Apr 02 2008 06:20 PM |
Schneider shouldn't be in there against a lefty. It's Raul time.
AG/DC Apr 02 2008 06:26 PM |
Matt Silverman's other book getting pumped on the Marlin broadcast.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 02 2008 06:27 PM |
I'm glad the Mets don't yet seem to have brought the rotten mood I've been in since last night into today's game. And we haven't yet been punished for another game thread mojo penalty.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 02 2008 06:30 PM |
I think they want The Schneid to get comfortable catching everyone before they start paying attention to his inability to hit. I kinda wanna see him sink or swim a little too.
metirish Apr 02 2008 06:31 PM |
Wright might never hit a home run in this park..
AG/DC Apr 02 2008 06:33 PM |
This guy?
What dorkus from New Yorkus. Good riddence.
AG/DC Apr 02 2008 06:34 PM |
Yeah, I'm just glad Church got one in. Hate to see them leave town homerless.
metirish Apr 02 2008 06:36 PM |
Yeah that eegit, I found that guy looking for the Schneider play into the dugout...strange.
metirish Apr 02 2008 06:37 PM |
Beltran apparently just hit a two run homer...came of the top of the wall.
metirish Apr 02 2008 06:39 PM |
The umps conferred and over turned their home run call.....WOW
AG/DC Apr 02 2008 06:39 PM |
Oh come on now.
OlerudOwned Apr 02 2008 06:39 PM |
For serious guys?
AG/DC Apr 02 2008 06:40 PM |
The camera shot the fan pointing to the metal rail.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 02 2008 06:41 PM |
3 doubles in 3 ABs is almost better than 2 2Bs and a homer. I think he should go for 4 or 5.
metirish Apr 02 2008 06:42 PM |
Yeah not taking the piss here, the umps called it a two run shot and then Freddie Gonzalez complained , they conferred and called it back....still and RBI though, just not two.
AG/DC Apr 02 2008 06:43 PM |
Craig Mitervini on the Marlincast is talking with fans. Both a Marlin fan and a Yankee fan have readily acknowledged that Beltran got jobbed.
Nymr83 Apr 02 2008 06:51 PM |
I just got home, what did i miss???
metsguyinmichigan Apr 02 2008 06:55 PM |
I think Beltran is going to have a monster year.
Valadius Apr 02 2008 06:55 PM |
So Senator Chicken hit a homer. Awesome.
AG/DC Apr 02 2008 06:57 PM |

Valadius Apr 02 2008 06:58 PM |
Oliver = awesome.
themetfairy Apr 02 2008 07:04 PM |
Each time Ollie goes out there, he's the Met most likely to throw a no-hitter. He's also the Met most likely to walk 10. And he's likely to do both in the same game.

metirish - "Wright might never hit a home run in this park."
soupcan Apr 02 2008 07:12 PM |
Wright hits a 3 run ding-dong, inning ends and I flip to YES to bathe in a 0-4 Yankee deficit just in time to watch Cap'n Intangibles ground into an inning-ending double-play.
SteveJRogers Apr 02 2008 07:15 PM |
Web Gem right there.

OlerudOwned Apr 02 2008 07:15 PM |

metirish Apr 02 2008 07:16 PM |
That Jeter reference reminds me, I was flipping tonight and landed on YES, kay was telling how even though Bob Shepard can't be at the ball park to introduce the players Jeter has instructed the yankees that a recording of Shepard will introduce his AB's and so on...."Because only you can introduce me"...I fucking kid you not..
Valadius Apr 02 2008 07:16 PM |
For those of us out-of-market, what happened?
SteveJRogers Apr 02 2008 07:17 PM |

Ummm, Val can you give me the gloss on this one.

Got me...I'll gladly take a golden shower from David anytime.

That was a gorgeous play! Mr. Wright dove after a ball, made a great play to keep it from becoming an extra base hit, jumped up, turned, and threw the ball to first just in time to get the out. Just beautiful!
SteveJRogers Apr 02 2008 07:18 PM |
Heh, too be fair though it is Jeter's way of honoring a legend.
Valadius Apr 02 2008 07:20 PM |
I combined two references. One is the late Senator Frank Church of Idaho. The other is Church's Chicken.

Its going to be so much fun watching him and Reyes at the ASG at MFY Stadium. Alot better than just Stearns and a Met in a Red jersey in '77!

Gary just announce they will take in booth phone calls in the bottom of the eight, this could blow up on SNY.

metirish Apr 02 2008 07:41 PM |
I know there are always a lot of Mets fans at games in Miami but this series it seems like more than usual.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 02 2008 07:45 PM |
Hey SNY, the phone calls suck.

E-mail me if you really want to know. But I don't think you really want to know.

Short Al is up next on the phone.

Frayed Knot Apr 02 2008 07:50 PM |
SNY proving that TV phone calls can be every bit as dopey and radio phone calls.

I know what a golden shower is, if that's what you mean. I just wondered why Metirish would want one. Ew.
KC Apr 02 2008 07:54 PM |
This place cracks me up somtimes.
metirish Apr 02 2008 07:54 PM |
Well I was being silly, earlier in the thread I remarked after Wright got robbed of a home run that he would never hit one on that stadium, then he does and Doc called me on it and used my "taking the piss" reference.....so ....
cooby Apr 02 2008 07:57 PM |
Okay, we'll give ya that one
themetfairy Apr 02 2008 07:58 PM |
Baker's Dozen! 13-0!
SteveJRogers Apr 02 2008 07:58 PM |
What are some of the lowlights?
themetfairy Apr 02 2008 07:59 PM |
Beltran's called-back homer is the lowlight.
SteveJRogers Apr 02 2008 08:01 PM |
HEH! I meant in terms of the callers into the booth

All of them SJR , the last guy asked Keith if he got into the HOF what cap would he choose, Keith hid behind the I can't choose the Hall does, admitted he wouldn't get in anyway, Gary pressed him to choose and he picked the Mets because blue is his fave color....lame

No chance to post during the game, but what a game. Good stuff all around.

Whomever thought the phone calls during the SNY broadcast was a good idea should be fired.
AG/DC Apr 02 2008 10:48 PM |
The only question to ask Keith Hernandez on the air is "Keith, I've got to move on Saturday. Do you think you could come over and give me a hand?"
Triple Dee Apr 02 2008 11:21 PM |
On Marlin TV, there was a fan email question read on the air: "What is a 'Met', anyway?"
metsmarathon Apr 04 2008 12:43 PM |
wright was getting those chants in the first game.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 04 2008 12:45 PM |
Those may have been road games, but they were home crowds.

I've never attended a Mets game in Miami but did go to one in Montreal back in 1998 or 1999. It was quite the pro-Mets crowd and very surreal to be such a vocal presence in the enemy's park.
themetfairy Apr 04 2008 02:22 PM |
I went to a Mets series in Montreal in 1986. After the Saturday night victory, the Mets fans exiting the stadium were chanting, "Let's Go Mets" and "We're Number One!" It was, indeed, surreal.
soupcan Apr 04 2008 02:39 PM |
I went to a Mets - Red Sox game in Fenway and after Benitez gave up a game-winning hit, to Daubach I think, a guy wearing a Piazza shirt got chased out of the place by two Red Sox fans screaming at him they they were gonna f**k him in the ass the way Piazza likes it.
metirish Apr 04 2008 02:41 PM |
Obviously Fenway has it's share of gay ruffians.
