Who be the Fish, who need to be severely squished?
Miami continued their fire selling ways this past offseason, dealing away the last two members of the 2003 World Champions and their two biggest known stars, Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis, to Detroit.
In there place, there are still young players that the Marlins will look to build as a foundation as they look to finally getting their new stadium some time down the road.
The starters shape up like this:
1B Old friend Mike Jacobs who hit .265 with 17 homers and 54 RBIs in 114 games a year ago.
2B Dan Uggla who had a solid sophomore campaign after being a surprise rookie star in 2006.
3B Looks like Jorge Cantu will be taking over for Cabrera in 2008, played with both the Reds and Devil Rays in 2007 where he hit a combined .252 in just 52 ballgames.
SS Hanley Ramirez all but solidified his status as one of the best shortstops in the game a year ago when he followed up his Rookie of The Year winning season with a .332 average, 29 homers and 81 RBIs.
LF Josh Willingham yet another third year player who had a pretty solid sophomore season with the Marlins last year.
CF Right now it appears to be a platoon with Cody Ross and Alejandro De Aza.
RF Jeremy Hermida, although it would appear he is banged up and might not make the start on Monday.
C With one of the villains of the disaster that was the final weekend of the regular season, Miguel Olivo, now in Kansas City, the catching duties will fall to Matt Treanor.
Also notable on the Marlin bench is 40 year old Luis Gonzalez.
Your Probable Pitchers for the series:
Johan Santana will make his Mets debut Monday, going up against Mark Hendrickson who went 4-8 a year ago in LA with a 5.21 ERA.
Pedro Martinez will take the hill on Tuesday against Netherlands native Rick VandenHurk who pitched in 18 games last year to the tune of a 4-6 record and a 6.83 ERA.
Wednesday's starters are not known at this time per MLB.com, but look for Oliver Perez to take the mound for the Mets.
Ex-Factors You know about Jacobs on the Fish, but they also have Matt Lindstrom who made his debut last year with the Marlins, going 3-4 with a 3.09 ERA in 71 games as a reliever.
On the Ex-Fish side the Mets are rocking; Luis Castillo Carlos Delgado Ramon Castro
