Not that any of this matters greatly but what a string of bummers to end the Grapefruit season.

I'm surprised, and disappointed, that they couldn't work something out for Register. I wasn't sure he was major-league ready, but I did think that he looked promising, and he was a better bet than their other pen options until Sanchez is ready.

Also closes the door on the Keppinger trade. I always think of it together with Burgos/Bannister, which has worked out similarly thus far. In each case, the supposed low-ceiling guy the Mets gave up surprised for his new team, while the Mets return has been limited.

To be fair to the Mets, Keppinger got cut by his new team before latching on with Cincinnati and surprising for them.

To also be fair, we have no idea how hard they tried to deal him.
So, the Mets fail when someone fails to clear waivers, and they fail when someone successfully clears waivers.

The blogosphere was boiling with anti-Tatis-ness. Oh, well.

Neither do I, and he's better in some respects - notably power and the ability to be a RH bat at 1B. FWIW talk radio has been EXTREMELY anti-Tatis, viewing the loss of Gotay as somewhere between those of Mel Mora and Nolan Ryan and the inclusion of Tatis as nothing more than someone being handed a job on account of being a friend of Omar (never mind he was on the AAA roster all last season and his buddy Omar left him there with nary a promotion). Not quite sure I see what Clark brings to the table that's not already here but it's a small potatoes move and he's the most vunerable if (when?) Alou is ready. Smith has plenty of options and is the likely candidate to be sent down when Sanchez is back. Meanwhile it gives him a chance to pitch his way permanently onto the team although I'm not sure at whose expense. This all leaves us with: Starters (8): Delgado Castillo Reyes Wright Pagan Beltran Church Schneider Reserves (5): Casanova Easley Anderson Clark Chavez Starting Pitchers (5): Santana Martinez Perez Maine Pelfrey Relievers (7): Wagner Heilman Feliciano Smith Schoeneweis Wise Sosa DL: Castro O Hernandez Alou Vargas Burgos - those last two being probable (if they're not already) candidates for the 60-day DL/removal from 40-man roster

Clark may be one of those veterans that, if you're going to see what he has left, it's best to do it early in the season.

Where's Sanchez? Shouldn't he be DL too?
