Ghost Camp (Split from Piazza Signs)

I've had an idea for a good business. Operate a parallel spring training camp for 100 or so unsigned veterans. The out-of work players pay you to hire out-of-work coaches and trainers to to run drills and conduct batting practice and supervise scrimmages, whether only within the camp or against teams from affiliated camps.

This makes sure the unsigned vet is in game shape when he does get the call, and it gives them a place down in Florida or Arizona to get scouted while their agent is scrambling for offers for them.

I would take that idea and put a formal proposal together. Then shop it to professional sports agents.

Those are the guys with the knowledge and connections to do that as well as having great interest in it. Either because it opens up a market for them in some of those unsigned players being unhappy with their current representaion or just not having an agent at the time or just the fact that by itself it may be a money-making enterprise.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

And there's plenty of underutilized baseball facilities where you could make it happen now. You could set it up next year in Ft Lauderdale, which will be tenant-less after the O's take over Dodgertown.

You may have to flesh out the camp with released minor leagers or college kids or whatever.

Make it a populist thing, get some cool grafix for their unis and caps, invite all college teams to play.

You could even run an "All-Star" fantasy camp.

OK, I need partners --- investors, lawyers, realtors, maybe a graphic designer.

Sorry to keep pushing business ideas, but I'm coming to the realization that my ship needs to come in NOW!!!!

Do you need a database guy?

This is actually a great idea, we could send aspiring journalist SJR to cover camp for us.

I think the idea is getting tarnished already!

Word.

How much money do you have in your pocket?

$61.47.

I'd have more but I had to spend 58 cents at the post office this morning to mail my taxes to the IRS.
