Never heard of him when he first came on the scene but over the years have read plenty, recently downloaded his first album "Grace" after reading about it recently somewhere online , one of those "greatest debut album " type articles.

Got to say I don't really like it at all, " Hallelujah " is kind of a nice song but I find the album as a whole quite depressing, actually very depressing.

Anyone here like his music?

I think it's a pretty good album, depressing, but good. I want his version of Hallelujah played at my funeral...I guess I don't know if I could feel anymore depressingly good about it.

I saw him play live when he opened for Soundgarden in 1994. He got booed off the stage and Chris Cornell came out and bitched out the audience for about 5 minutes.

His death was ruled an accidental drowning, but has always been somewhat mysterious and controversial. I played with some session guys in Memphis about a year after he died. They told me that "no one goes swimming in the Mississippi river with their boots on expecting to come back."

I really liked it when it came out, mainly for the daring he took with his voice, but yeah, a downer and now he's dead on top of it. Kinda like melancholy acid-rock with an angelic voice. I haven't listened in years.

Chixxx back then went wild for it, it nearly approached Roxy Music's Avalon as a sure-fire McLovin selection.

He couldn't carry Nick Drake's jock.

Are we dueling sad tortured singer guys with interesting voices who died mysteriously 30 years apart?

I think we have to. It's a forum requirement.

Booooooooring.

(Although I do like his version of "Hallelujah," I like other versions better.)

I'd take Buckley over Nick Drake. His voice was pretty special. Nick Drake a little too Cat Stevens-y for me.

I never quite got what all the rave reviews and fuss was about regarding Grace. Jeff Buckley had a great voice, but I just never seemed to find his music to be all that enjoyable.
