Was going back and forth between the Mets game and the Rangers at Devils game, watched the hockey when the Mets put their game away. Rangers and Devils was a great game highlighted by a Brodeur puck handling mistake.....

I'll follow hockey casually. My horse is out of the race (the Islanders), but I'll probably keep an eye on the Rangers/Devils series.

I don't seek hockey out, but there's nothing better than sudden death playoff games.

I'm a lapsed hockey fan. Used to follow a lot, used to even play a bit, but there are so many things wrong with the league that it's tough to know where to start.

But even just sticking to the plyaoffs - which can be thrill-a-minute exciting - a huge problem is that upsets are not just possible they're almost the rule. Now while that doesn't sound bad, as the possibility of a knockoff is always welcome, it's come to the point where top teams exiting early is almost the rule rather than the exeption meaning that the loooooonnnnnng run-up to the final leaves you with a snore-fest where two barely .500 teams fighting it out for Lord Stanley's cup in mid-June.

Des Chemises-Bleus pour moi.

I guess I'm the only one here who actually prioritizes hockey over baseball. Sorry Mets, but you're riding in the backseat this month or so.

Tu soutiens les Rangers ou les Devils, metirish?

Big time Rangers fan , when I came to NYC in late summer of 1994 it was a great time to get into hockey and to be new to the city.

Les Vestes-Bleues, peut-être?

Non, c'est les Rangers.

Hey, another post for NYMR's new thread.

Well, I haven't watched any NHL thus far this season, so I suppose I won't start now. It would be nice if the Bruins could actually win a series though.

Triple Dee

Fuck.

Or should I say: "Foutre".

The Bruins are actually making a series of it before the Habs demolish them in game 7.

On one hand, I feel like the Rangers match up better with Montreal than with Boston.

On the other hand, the mass panic on the Hockey's Future boards if the Habs were to blow the series would be priceless.

Triple Dee
Apr 20 2008 09:05 AM

This series would be all over two games ago, if the Habs hadn't traded Huet.

Would somebody be nice enough to provide me with a link for the Conference Semi-Final natchups?

I've spent the last 15 minutes looking all over tsn.ca and nhl.com to no avail.

I don't think it's settled yet until the results of the Philly-Washington series is complete.

metirish
Apr 22 2008 08:48 AM

I forget the permutations but the Rangers will play either the Habs or Penguins , the outcome of game seven between the Caps and Flyers will determine the final match ups.

When I saw the score I thought of that , still I would think the Bruins fans would say they had a good season , yes/no ?

Willets Point
Apr 22 2008 11:16 AM

The general consensus is that unlike past years when great regular season Bruins teams choked against Montreal in the playoffs that this is a team that played far better than expected just to get to the point where they could lose to Montreal in 7 games.

Frayed Knot
Apr 22 2008 12:03 PM

That was the [u:b6a9b61008]24th time[/u:b6a9b61008] that Montreal has knocked the Bruins out of the playoffs - the most (by far) of any team combo in any sport.
I'm sure long-time Bruin fans still recall the 1971 K.O. as the worst.

Willets Point
Apr 22 2008 12:30 PM

Wow. That's an amazing stat, although I suspect the 6-team league years made it more likely that the two teams would meet in the playoffs often.

Frayed Knot
Apr 22 2008 12:48 PM

Yeah, no surprise that it's a hockey combo that leads that list -- or that it's the Canadiens who are on top.
I think 2nd place was Montreal over the Blackhawks, although it was about half the Mtl/Bos number.

I wonder if the highest baseball combo is NYY over Bklyn

Alex Ovechkin, in case you haven't yet noticed, is pretty good at this hockey thing.

Great to see an atmosphere like this returning to DC.

metirish
Apr 22 2008 07:47 PM

Good game , I love watching Ovechkin , Flames at Sharks next for game seven will be a brilliant atmosphere , I was there once for a regular season game and it was a wild place.

Triple Dee
Apr 23 2008 01:39 AM

I think San Jose will win the SC.

I also predict the Rangers to beat the Pengies.

Triple Dee
Apr 24 2008 10:01 PM

Habs came back from 2-0 down, 3-2 down with 0:31 remaining, to win 4-3 in OT over the Flyers.

A Rangers/Habs series may be just what hockey needs. Let's hope it happens!

metirish
May 02 2008 07:17 AM

The Rangers won a must win game last night against the Penguins , they probably won't win the series but Jagr has been brilliant , he's played unselfish and has been a leader and I don't think he has ever played better as a Ranger.

Hank stood on his head last night and will need to do it Sunday again , Rangers need to steal on there and get back to MSG Monday.

Versus has had great coverage I think this post-season , certainly a lot better than when they started a few seasons ago and Hockey in HD is the best.

May 02 2008 09:58 AM

And then they got swept ...........must be seen to be believed.

Is that for real? It's like a SNL spoof of wrestling.

metirish
May 02 2008 10:13 AM

Yes it's real , they got swept by the Penguins , that was the first round for them. Would you not be embarrassed if you were player with that home introduction?

DocTee
May 02 2008 10:27 AM

After that performance, the coach, GM and PR director should all be fired on the spot.

Who is the Versus studio host? I see him and hear him and think I know this guy from somewhere, but I never catch his name.
