Anyone know why the Mets are playing two games at Wrigley this year, and the Cubs are playing four at Shea?
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 22 2008 11:57 AM |
Thought Anderson woulda got the start at 1B despite the lefty.... That was the speculation on radio last nite.

No
Well, it'll have to work out to 81/81 somehow so there's got to be a different imbalance somewhere.
Don't be silly, it's Heilman's fault.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 22 2008 12:16 PM |
We could wind up visiting Wrigley again in the playoffs. Best Cub start since 1985, according to to this blog with a million comments already.

Goofing off on the job officially begins.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 22 2008 12:44 PM |
Yeah, looking good, Delgado.
themetfairy Apr 22 2008 12:48 PM |
There's no excuse for the Mets not to be bitch slapping Ted Lilly around!
AG/DC Apr 22 2008 12:48 PM |
Blacked out? The Hell?
Benjamin Grimm Apr 22 2008 12:51 PM |
Cubs have the bases loaded with none out in the second.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 22 2008 12:53 PM |
I want a triple play, and I want it NOW!!!!!
Benjamin Grimm Apr 22 2008 12:53 PM |
How about a caught looking and a GDP?
HahnSolo Apr 22 2008 12:53 PM |
Nicely done, Nelson.

Hank White hits into a GiDP by rolling one to Joe King
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 22 2008 12:55 PM |
I go around hoping for a triple play at all times, but that is an acceptable alternative.
AG/DC Apr 22 2008 12:56 PM |
Nelson is touched by the hand of God right now. Mets are scuffling and the homeboy is immune.
themetfairy Apr 22 2008 12:58 PM |
Whew!
HahnSolo Apr 22 2008 01:01 PM |
Nine up, nine down for the good guys.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 22 2008 01:06 PM |
Still scoreless through 3.
Nymr83 Apr 22 2008 01:10 PM |
Ted lilly is PERFECT through 10 batters, thats right, he's throwing a PERFECT game... (you can still jinx those things right?)
Benjamin Grimm Apr 22 2008 01:11 PM |
You can try!
Benjamin Grimm Apr 22 2008 01:12 PM |
And there's the actual extra-base hit.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 22 2008 01:13 PM |
Pagan with a revenge smash.
Willets Point Apr 22 2008 01:15 PM |
I'm glad the no-hitter ended.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 22 2008 01:15 PM |
Lilly, pitching carefully to Wright, walks him.
Nymr83 Apr 22 2008 01:16 PM |
jinx successful.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 22 2008 01:19 PM |
Beltran walks too.
Frayed Knot Apr 22 2008 01:19 PM |
Carlos I walks, be a nice time for Carlos II to break out.
Willets Point Apr 22 2008 01:20 PM |
Big time for Delgado.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 22 2008 01:20 PM |
And it's a pop up to shortstop.
Nymr83 Apr 22 2008 01:21 PM |
Delgado pops up and its Easley with bases loaded...
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 22 2008 01:21 PM |
When does Delgado announce his retirement?
Benjamin Grimm Apr 22 2008 01:21 PM |
Another pop up. (And a near collision, but the ball is caught.)
bmfc1 Apr 22 2008 01:21 PM |
Delgado has until Monday to get it together or I do the unthinkable and waive him from my fantasy team (not the CPF league).
Willets Point Apr 22 2008 01:22 PM |
Knock it off, stinker.
AG/DC Apr 22 2008 01:22 PM |
I'm starting to like the squeeze.
HahnSolo Apr 22 2008 01:22 PM |
The ongoing suckage of Delgado is a real downer. And Easley ends the inning.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 22 2008 01:24 PM |
Beltran's still dangerous.
HahnSolo Apr 22 2008 01:25 PM |
I have confidence in Beltran snapping out of it but right now he is struggling.

Error or hit for Cedeno?
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 22 2008 01:33 PM |
Hell in handbasket. How did Lilly get a single?
HahnSolo Apr 22 2008 01:34 PM |
Any chance the could have gotten Lily on that? Gametracker says he singled to second.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 22 2008 01:35 PM |
We need updates
sharpie Apr 22 2008 01:36 PM |
'Cording to the radio it was Delgado not covering first that allowed Lilly to get on base.
HahnSolo Apr 22 2008 01:37 PM |
The diabolical Reed Johnson makes it 3-0.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 22 2008 01:38 PM |
Delgado seemed to go for the ball, but it was fielded by Easley. Easley went to throw to first, but nobody was there. Figueroa saw that he was needed and sprinted to first and got there to catch the throw, but he didn't beat the runner.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 22 2008 01:38 PM |

Willets Point Apr 22 2008 01:56 PM |
Why don't we start hitting him now.

This kinda crap has stopped surprising me but hasn't stopped irritating me.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 22 2008 02:03 PM |
With one out, Beltran walks and Delgado smokes a hard single to right.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 22 2008 02:03 PM |
Well, "almost" isn't all that accurate. My bad.

Nymr83 Apr 22 2008 02:06 PM |

Benjamin Grimm Apr 22 2008 02:09 PM |
He reaches on an odd-looking force play, and a run scores.

Yeah, he's had way too many chances to have helped us out not to have helped us out by now, if you know what I mean.
AG/DC Apr 22 2008 02:13 PM |
Missing Lo Du.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 22 2008 02:14 PM |
His spring training made me think that he'd be another Ramon Castro, but it's not happening.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 22 2008 02:15 PM |
Cubs get the leadoff runner on in the 6th and Schoeneweis will now replace Figueroa.
Nymr83 Apr 22 2008 02:16 PM |
i'm not. Schneider's defense has converted me and if only Castro were healthy we wouldnt need to carry casanova at all. Figueroa is done for the day.
HahnSolo Apr 22 2008 02:20 PM |
OK, Lou, if you're going to bunt anyway, why waste a bench player? Let Lilly bunt.
AG/DC Apr 22 2008 02:24 PM |
Schneider's defense is to be missed right now also.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 22 2008 02:29 PM |
Yes it sucks tremendous ass. The Schneid in the meantime hasn't been all that sharp with the glove and been hurt twice since spiring training began. That's pretty shittty too.
HahnSolo Apr 22 2008 02:30 PM |
Milwaukee-St. Lou game a real humdinger. 8-8 top ninth, Cards get 4 in seventh and one more in 9th to tie. Another blown save for Eric Gagne, with the Cards still batting.
sharpie Apr 22 2008 02:33 PM |
Bob Howry, sucking ass all year, sets Mets down in order. Then again, Ted Lilly had been an ass-sucker also.
HahnSolo Apr 22 2008 02:34 PM |
Smith staying in for the 7th?
Benjamin Grimm Apr 22 2008 02:35 PM |
Yup.
AG/DC Apr 22 2008 02:37 PM |
Gagne is another that did his job ag'in' the Mets but not other times.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 22 2008 02:38 PM |
Well thanks to yesterday's pathetic attempt at scoring, any comeback will have to be launched against Marmol & Wood.
sharpie Apr 22 2008 02:39 PM |
I'm glad we don't have to face Fukudome again after today for a while.
HahnSolo Apr 22 2008 02:42 PM |
Well, that about does it. A three run deficit the way our offense is going is just about insurmountable.

Sosa has an opportunity to put away this game the same way he put away last night's game. Sheesh.
Frayed Knot Apr 22 2008 02:54 PM |
Both our RBIs this series are on infield groundouts.
HahnSolo Apr 22 2008 03:00 PM |

Change that RIGHT NOW!
HahnSolo Apr 22 2008 03:08 PM |
As Fred Imus might say, "this team can't suck enough."
sharpie Apr 22 2008 03:11 PM |
In that more interesting Cards-Brewers game Cesar Izturis left with an injury. Since other players had come and gone from the game it necessitated Albert Pujols making his debut at second base while the backup catcher moved to first.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 22 2008 03:12 PM |

I'm going to invoke that old axiom about how you're never as bad as you look when you're losing. Just a couple of days ago, the Mets were riding a five-game winning streak and were on the verge of sweeping the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. They've had a dreadful two days in Chicago. But there's still some hope that they'll be a good team this year. (As I'm typing this, Ramirez scares me by almost hitting a three-run homer.)
metsguyinmichigan Apr 22 2008 03:17 PM |
Seems like Willie is trotting Jorge Sosa out there every single game.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 22 2008 03:19 PM |
Grand Salami.
sharpie Apr 22 2008 03:19 PM |
Grand slam by Cedeno. Sosa has had a rough time in Wrigley.
Centerfield Apr 22 2008 03:20 PM |
Wow. This is like, the exact same game.
Gwreck Apr 22 2008 03:21 PM |
In fairness, I don't think there's any great need for Sosa in the rotation right now.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 22 2008 03:21 PM |
The Mets had the infield in with the bases loaded for the previous batter.
Nymr83 Apr 22 2008 03:26 PM |
thats what i get for dissing his bat earlier
Centerfield Apr 22 2008 03:28 PM |
Mets are good at getting mini-swept.
Grote15 Apr 22 2008 03:30 PM |
Is Castro expected back by the all-star break..I know he's having setbacks...This Schneider-Casanova thing aint gonna get the ring.
Grote15 Apr 22 2008 03:34 PM |
Is Tsyoshi Shinjo available...bring him and Bobby Valentine.. Barring David Wright.. this team currently sucks.
DocTee Apr 22 2008 03:39 PM |
The always-optimistic Grote15 reminds me of the ever-sunny CleonJones11.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 22 2008 03:41 PM |
Indeed.
mario25 Apr 22 2008 03:44 PM |
Thank God it is early but the bullpen for the most part is bad, Castillo and Deldgado look washed up and I think the bench needs some pop. I agree that resting your hope on Alou is scary.... in regards to the catching tandem hurry back Castro
Nymr83 Apr 22 2008 04:30 PM |
yeah, i can see how a guy with a 900 ops each of the last 4 years can scare you. so he'll miss half the year, at least he'll be great when he's here. thats beter than being mediocre or worse the whole year.
Frayed Knot Apr 22 2008 05:26 PM |
Alou could make a difference; Castro not so much.
AG/DC Apr 22 2008 07:20 PM |
I like the fire-Willie-and-pray approach. That sounds sound.

I tellsya, I get mad enough sometimes that it makes perfect sense.
Rockin' Doc Apr 22 2008 07:33 PM |
It's sad, but for this series, I don't even think you can realistically say "they battled".
Fman99 Apr 22 2008 07:44 PM |
What a butt-fuck of a 2 game set that was.
Willets Point Apr 22 2008 08:24 PM |
First time in over 100 years the the Cubs have won four consecutive games with a margin of 6 runs or more.
metirish Apr 22 2008 08:30 PM |
I've not seen any of this series really , I have family out from Ireland and spent the day at the Bronx Zoo , I swear I saw Hank in the Gorilla enclosure.

metirish - "I've not seen any of this series ..."

This was only the third game I missed this season, and the first I'm not planning to watch delayed.

I thought Figueroa battled. Before the game I had visions of him giving up 6 earned in 2 1/3 innings. But he gave us some good innings, and left with the game still within reach.
metirish Apr 23 2008 06:52 AM |
Willie thought Figgi deserved better defense.
Frayed Knot Apr 23 2008 07:07 AM |
He did, but while serving up 7 hits and 5 walks in 5 innings it's not like he left a whole lot of margin for error.
bmfc1 Apr 23 2008 07:39 AM |
On my way home yesterday, I put on the XM feed which was unfortunately the Cubs feed. Santo may be a legend but he's a horrible color guy. With the home team up so much, there was a discussion about the fact that Santo had to go to "the toilet" after eating soup for lunch that day. Then the play-by-play guy said that the Cubs were going to the airport to "set sail" for Colorado. "Set sail" from the airport?
Benjamin Grimm Apr 23 2008 07:41 AM |

I woulndn't have pegged you for the defense-first type. Castro may or may not change things, but I tried running some numbers and this is so far looking like one of the Mets' most punchless catching squads in a long time. The Schneid probably goes tonight. I'm kind of disappointed that the Mets didn't use this opportunity ot activate Sandy Alomar Jr. for a few days.
