Trivia Trap

It's a trap because I'l be out today, and if you guess the answer, I won't likely be around to tell you that you're correct. Eric Patterson of the Cubs was called up when Alfonso Soriano hit the DL with a strained calf, and he started Wednesday night against the Reds and his brother Corey. That makes young Eric the first Cub to start a game with his brother in the opposing lineup since 1973, when the Cubbers faced the Mets. Who were the siblings who started in that game?

Well played D3. Never heard of Adrian, though he appears to have had a not insubstantial career. Like Wayne, he hit lefty and threw righty.

I'm becoming intrigued by 3D. Lives in Australia yet knows about Wayne and Adrian Garrett. (I had heard of Adrian, but didn't know that he was a Cub. I recall, when Wayne was a Met, hearing that he had a brother who was an Atlanta Brave.)

I remember Adrian because him and Wayne were the first brothers I'd ever heard of who played on opposing teams. I was probably about seven at the advent of the Adrian Garrett Era, and I'd never heard of more famous opposing brothers like Joe and Dom DiMaggio. So Adrian stuck in my mind. Also, I had a friend whose sister was named Adrian. Or maybe Adrienne. Is 3D actually an Aussie? For some reason, I had the impression that he was an American living in Australia.

He said he has to struggle to remember to use American spellings. I thought he was American until he posted the 11/4 OOTS thread.

No, I'm not American, although I have lived in the US on two separate occasions. My father is a naturalized USian. But what kind of Mets fan would I be, if I didn't know who Wayne Garrett was?

Sadly, you'd be the type of Met fan that's part of the dominant 90% sector --- the type we occasionally suspect is also characteristic of some members of the marketing team. We're real happy you're part of the 10% other. But a Met fan who recalls Adrian Garrett puts you more in the 1% category. Wow.

Just to clarify - I didn't know for a fact they both played in the same game. It was an educated guess.

Adrian Garrett isn't as obscure as you seem to think. I remember hearing about him all the time when Wayne was a Met. (I guess he's obscure to all but those of us who have reached a "certain age.")
