Frank Fuckin' Thomas
metirish Apr 21 2008 09:07 AM |
I know he has slumped since the first week but he still had 3 HR and 11 RBI , I'm sure he'll find a home with another AL team.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 21 2008 09:09 AM |
Especially since he'll only cost the major-league minimum.
AG/DC Apr 21 2008 09:14 AM |
Predict NOW!!!
metirish Apr 21 2008 09:16 AM |
Baltimore.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 21 2008 09:34 AM |
Bronx.
seawolf17 Apr 21 2008 09:55 AM |
Yeah, because the Yankees need more DHs.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 21 2008 09:58 AM |
I predicted the Bronx because Hank may have his father's lust for big names, despite whether they fit in or not.
seawolf17 Apr 21 2008 09:59 AM |
Actually, how great would that be!! I hope Hank just claims him.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 21 2008 10:00 AM |
Yanks could release Giambi and pick up Big Frank. Were I them I'd consider it.
sharpie Apr 21 2008 10:06 AM |
Thing is, Thomas hasn't played first in a few years and while Giambi can't hit or field well he does still own a mitt.
Triple Dee Apr 21 2008 10:09 AM |
Put me down for Seattle, who have currently have Jose Vidro DHing.
HahnSolo Apr 21 2008 10:35 AM |
Seattle
AG/DC Apr 21 2008 10:39 AM |
Seattle is squatted.
sharpie Apr 21 2008 10:47 AM |
I'll vote Texas.

Would that do him any good though? I'm not sure how this works, but I thought that if he was able to get more money out of his new team, it would just reduce the amount that the Blue Jays end up owing him. He does have a contract for 2008 and it's still in effect.
AG/DC Apr 21 2008 11:21 AM |
My understanding is that, once a man clears waivers, the releasing team is responsible for what they're responsible for.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 21 2008 11:30 AM |
Maybe you're right; I really don't know. I just can't recall any time a player in Thomas' situation ever negotiated anything more than the pro-rated minimum from his new team.
smg58 Apr 21 2008 11:32 AM |
I'll say the Twins.
AG/DC Apr 21 2008 11:38 AM |
Well this Times article leaves it inconclusive whether the Mariners paid Henderson anything beyond the minimum for the duration of 2000, but he did at least eke out an option year. BASEBALL; Mariners Sign Henderson
Frayed Knot Apr 21 2008 11:47 AM |
- First Thomas has to clear waivers - which he almost certainly will do since no one will want to pick up the existing contract.
AG/DC Apr 21 2008 11:53 AM |
I'm aware of Cust
DocTee Apr 21 2008 03:32 PM |
For a guy with his credentials, I was surprised to see he had only five AS games to his credit.

Rockin' Doc Apr 24 2008 10:52 AM |
Maybe Thomas had a good reason not to join his teammates on the filed after the game. He may have been manning his merchandising tent.
sharpie Apr 24 2008 12:29 PM |
Re-signs with the A's. AGDC jumped on that one and swatted away all squatters.
AG/DC Apr 24 2008 12:31 PM |
Thank you, Ryan Zimmerman!
Benjamin Grimm Apr 24 2008 12:42 PM |
Now now!
Frayed Knot Apr 24 2008 12:49 PM |
ChiSox GM Kenny Williams didn't have many good things to say about Thomas on his way out their door either.
metsguyinmichigan Apr 24 2008 09:36 PM |
Frank Thomas is one of my favorite players -- and gave me something special once at Tiger Stadium.
Valadius Apr 24 2008 09:48 PM |
I think he's a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame, personally.

One would expect so, unless his name is brought up in Canseco's 3rd book, "I've Got Another Secret to Tell That I Forgot to Tell in the Previous Two Books"
Nymr83 Apr 24 2008 10:05 PM |
.302/.420/.559 for a 19 year career sound like gauranteed hall numbers to me, he's not going to get to 3000 hits, he was too busy drawing 1639 walks, 9th all time, and he's hit 516 homers.
Fman99 Apr 25 2008 01:22 PM |
...or is someone who will hold it against him that he played 55% of his career games at the DH position.
Nymr83 Apr 25 2008 02:04 PM |
i don't think DH ever needs to enter the discussion when a guy's numbers aren't borderline, they're shoe-in
DocTee Apr 25 2008 02:28 PM |
I'm still shocked that he only has 5 All-Star Game appearances. Who was getting voted in/selected over him all those years?
AG/DC Apr 25 2008 02:34 PM |
These are the starters during his career
Fman99 Apr 25 2008 02:54 PM |

I had to look it up to see that the Martinez in question (1997) was Tino. I had forgotten about that monster year he put up.
DocTee Apr 25 2008 02:58 PM |
Thomas, Thome and Ortiz the only consecutive starters in a 17 year span (Thomas and Thome in a 16 year one) suggests an unusually deep pool from which to select, it would seem.

Vic Sage May 05 2008 02:39 PM |
how's that Heath Bell trade working out for us, Omar?
Benjamin Grimm May 05 2008 02:41 PM |
Has that deal been Omar's biggest klunker?
metirish May 05 2008 02:42 PM |
Bannister?
metsmarathon May 05 2008 02:43 PM |
i think it just pulled ahead of bannister/burgos... but tis close!

Jim Edmunds, like a deuce.
smg58 May 09 2008 06:33 PM |
The Padres still owed him quite a bit of money for the year, too. He was definitely slumping, but he really had to give the Padres no reason for hope.
AG/DC May 09 2008 08:09 PM |
The Padres have shown themselves quick with the axe.
